You could
curse and complain about your feebleness, or you can get
busy and make yourself stronger. You could seethe with
resentment about the past, or you can make the choice to let
go and move forward.
You could worry endlessly about what might or might not
happen, or you can take steps to successfully prepare
yourself for anything that comes along. You could make a
long list of all the things that will perhaps go wrong, or
you can accept the fact that there will be obstacles and
decide to deal with them as they come.
You could hide away from the world inside the walls of your
comfort zone where nothing challenges you. Or you can make
use of every second of your precious time to explore and
experience, to get cold, wet, and dirty, and to feel
wonderfully alive.
You could let the smallest defeat turn into a big, imposing
excuse for giving up. Or you can learn from what went wrong
and then step enthusiastically forward with your newfound
knowledge and determination.
You could smugly blame all your troubles on something or
someone other than you. Or you can take a long, deep breath,
then take full responsibility, and feel how empowering it is
to be in total control.
There are lots of things you could have been, could have
done, could have seen, could have known, and could have
experienced. Yet nothing compares to the wondrous places
you'll go when you do what you know you can.

7 Strategic Moves That Boost Your Profits

Work smarter, not harder, by making small but
significant shifts in the way you do business. Simple
adjustments, clearheaded analysis and two minutes here
and there may be all it takes to boost your bottom
line. Carefully consider these options, and you should
be able to implement at least one or two of them right
away.
1. Drop your least profitable offerings and concentrate
on your most profitable ones. Note that I said
"profitable" - not those bringing in the most or least
money overall. You can sort your products and services
by their profitability if you analyze your expenses
according to which sources of revenue they support.
"Most small business owners lose sight of precisely
where they are making money and where they're not," says
David Shepherd, author of the book, Your Business or
Your Life. By getting rid of the offerings that require
the highest percentage of costs in order to deliver
them, you can see immediate improvement in profits, says
Shepherd.
2. Send "difficult" clients or those you simply don't
like to your competitors. In a survey by David Maister,
a consultant for top professional firms around the
world, only 30-35 percent of respondents said they liked
their clients; 50-60 percent said they tolerated their
clients; and 5-20 percent didn't like them at all. "Why
spend the majority of [your] life working on tolerable
stuff for acceptable clients when, with some effort in
(for example) client relations, marketing and selling,
you can spend your days working on exciting things for
interesting people?" asks Maister. You'll feel more
enthusiastic about your work and get more done when you
send unpleasant or troublesome clients to get their
needs met elsewhere.
3. Pursue customers who can or will pay more. A
consultant once told me that she'd come to the
conclusion that people starting a small business simply
wouldn't pay the fees she felt she should charge. I
didn't agree, because I'd had clients ready to spend big
on launching their new business. They were in their
forties and fifties and either had a budget to spend
from a company that was laying them off, or they were
willing to raid the retirement fund they'd accumulated
working for a large corporation. It would be possible to
target others like them and make multiples of what she'd
be earning from those just scraping by, but I think she
just didn't believe what I was saying. Almost always,
your existing market includes people who have more money
or are willing to spend more of what they have for your
stuff, and by marketing to people like them, you earn
more for the same effort.
4. Reuse everything you create in different formats or
for different purposes. If you've taught a seminar, turn
your handouts into an article (that's how what you're
reading came about). If you collected industry data to
direct your marketing, sell your research to colleagues.
If you regularly interview experts about what's new in
the field, incorporate their insights into a product.
And so on. "Do once, sell three times" is a shrewd
money-making mantra.
5. Create an untiring army of sales reps through an
affiliate program. Colleagues who don't have their own
products or services, or whose offerings complement
yours may be happy to promote your wares in exchange for
a commission on the business that they refer. On the
Internet, so-called affiliate programs make that process
easy. You decide on the terms, find marketing partners
who agree to them and give those partners a link to use
that keeps track of leads or sales coming through that
link. I use FusionQuest.com for my affiliate program
because unlike most such services, they themselves take
no commissions from sales coming through the program.
6. Cultivate and reward your referral partners. Two
ordinary words work magic when it comes to nurturing
relationships with people who regularly send you
business: "Thank you." If they send you sales with a
particularly high value, a gift, such as a book, a fruit
basket or tickets to a show might be appropriate. How do
you initiate such relationships in the first place? This
can be as simple as inviting professionals out to lunch
and asking them what they do so that you can refer
business to them. Only an idiot would not reciprocate by
turning the same question back to you.
7. Invest more to get customers who have a high lifetime
value. Keep in mind that when done properly, marketing
is not an expense but an investment. Correspondingly,
you need to know how much you can afford to invest to
acquire a customer. The smart way to think about this
question is not in terms of an amount for your marketing
budget that you think sounds reasonable but in relation
to how much you can earn during the whole time someone
remains your customer. For instance, spending $100 to
lure each new customer may sound outrageous until you
realize that each one spends $4,000-5,000 with you over
the course of three years. With that profile, it might
be smart to spend much more than $100 per customer to
lure them into your fold.

them when you can earn more by using some of these

Choices?

What are you willing to sacrifice for the dreams in your
life? Yes it will take sacrifices in order to achieve
success. The road to riches is paved with sacrifices! Do you
have the ability to make the choices that lessen the
sacrifices that are sometimes necessary?
Sacrifices include, days and weeks when 16 to 20-hour days
are the norm, when you hardly notice what day of the week it
is. Sometimes days turn into weeks and weeks, months. Some
seasons pass you by without a glance. A blur that passes you
by season after season. That was my old life!
The times and moments of wrestling over whether the goal and
plan are valid enough to continue this sustaining streak is
a result of overworking. Self-doubt creeps in and is an
ever-bearing thought that has to be fought back or it will
kill your business.
Ongoing pep talks to your inner-self will be required to
Maintain inner-strength and fend off the effects of setbacks
and stinging disappointment, discouragement and occasional
disillusionment. The way in which you bounce back from the
effects of a major setback can sometime be the single
determining factor in achieving success. The battle to keep
from giving up when it gets tough and hard to think.
Financial spending seems to always go over what you had
planned on specific projects or products! Under funding is
one of the first reasons why start-up businesses fail. A
smart business plan will allow you to not only survive
personally and financially but will have formed a
contingency plan to overcome yet another problem.
Physical health is often overlooked and illness often
accompanies you on your road to success - the stress of it
all such as weight loss or gain, fatigue, even depression.
Realize that mental and physical planning is an absolute
must to achieve your success.
All too often one of the largest sacrifices of achievement
is irreparable damage to relationships in your life, when
that significant other person reads the actions of focusing
and determination as an obsession. The reality is that true
understanding and support by that person or persons outside
the quest are rare.
A large number of families have fallen apart because the
entrepreneurial spirit was alive in a household without the
others having the same stick-to-it-ivenss. This is such a
complex and normal occurrence that each situation has it's
own unique but sameness to it. The ability to sit down prior
to starting entrepreneurial ventures and ironing out exactly
what the other person or persons are expecting and what they
can give is the path to preventing relationships from
falling apart. Communication is the key that will see
relationships not only survive, but grow while on the road
to success.
The road to success is sometimes paved with steep and rocky
hills with very few valleys in the beginning. The ones who
are willing to fight the fight and often pay the high price
are the ones that truly enjoy their success and sharing with
others.
If you hit those hills, just remember there are valleys
going down as well and you cannot stop and pick up the rocks
on the way upward. Leave them behind for the slothful ones.
The climb will be sooo worth it!
It is so amusing and enlightening when I hear someone make
envious statements of a successful person such as, "Oh yeah,
he's got it so easy". My thought is usually "if you only
knew". Knowing full well they have no idea what it has taken
for that successful person to achieve their success.
When you get to the top look on the valleys and the rocks
with joy and accomplishment knowing you did it yourself with
sacrifice, planning and work! Most of all take a mentor on
your journey, someone who has what you want and is willing
to share the secrets of getting there as it will make the
path much less rocky and shorter! If you can't find one give
