How Bad Is Your Breath? 14 Simple Tips
For Reducing Mouth Odor.

Bad breath, morning breath,
breath odor or halitosis are all terms used to describe a
noticeably unpleasant odor exhaled on the breath. Halitosis is
not a problem by itself, but it can cause concerns in our
interpersonal relationships.
We are all familiar with how
the consumption of certain foods such as garlic and onions can
affect our breath. This occurs because these foods are
absorbed into our bloodstream, where they are transferred to our
lungs and exhaled. Fortunately, bad breath caused by the foods
we eat is only temporary.
The truth is, most breath odor
comes from food particles trapped in our mouths. When food
remains in the mouth, it becomes a breeding ground for the
bacteria that can cause bad breath. Other causes can include
poor oral health, improper cleaning of dentures, periodontal
disease as well as smoking & tobacco products. Bad breath can
also be sign of an underlying medical condition of the stomach,
lungs and bloodstream.
Another little known situation
that can contribute to halitosis is xerostomia (dry mouth).
When our mouth is dry, saliva production decreases, leaving the
mouth's natural ability to clean itself
impaired. Saliva is the
mouth's natural mouthwash, which contains properties that
reduces bacteria in the mouth. Alcohol consumption, certain
medications, breathing through the mouth instead of the nose or
a salivary gland disorder can contribute to having a dry mouth.
Recommendations For Wellness
Brush your teeth and rinse
your mouth thoroughly after every meal to remove food particle
from the mouth.
When you are brushing your
teeth, also brush your tongue. The tongue
is covered with thousands of
tiny hairs that can trap bacteria.
Have regular check-ups with
your dentist to rule out gum disease and to correct any faulty
restorations, overhanging fillings or leaking crowns, all of
which can trap food in the mouth.
Chew sugarless gum or suck on
sugarless lozenges to increase the flow of saliva.
If your mouth is dry, drink
plenty of water. Try swooshing it around in your mouth for at
least twenty seconds to loosen any food particles the bacteria
can feed upon.
Avoid breath mints and
mouthwashes that contain alcohol. Instead of helping,
they can make things worse. They only temporarily cover the
smell and tend to dry the mouth, creating a more favorable
environment for bacteria.
Snacking on vegetables such as
raw celery or carrots can keep plaque from forming.
If you are going to an
important meeting or on a big date, avoid foods that can cause
bad breath, such as onions and garlic.
Avoid alcohol and caffeine
consumption, which can dry the mouth.
Quit smoking. Tar and
nicotine can build up on the surface of the teeth, tongue and
cheeks. It can also dry the mouth and inhibit saliva flow.
Chlorophyll is a natural
breath freshener and is found in leafy green vegetables like
parsley.
A few drops of peppermint or
tea tree oil can be applied to the tongue or toothbrush to help
freshen the breath. In addition to its refreshing nature, their
antibacterial properties will kill the bacteria found in the
mouth.
Baking soda has a long history
of being used to maintain good oral health and for fighting bad
breath.
A mixture of 50% hydrogen
peroxide and 50% water can be swooshed around in the mouth and
used as a mouthwash. Hydrogen peroxide can kill many of the
bacteria that can cause bad breath.

This is a great article but I must say one thing. DO NOT USE SUGARLESS
anything unless it is from natural sweeteners, not chemical sugar
substitutes, such as aspartame or splenda. I get a very good truly
organic breathe tablet at my local health food store made with organic

Gluten-free, Grain
Alternative and Nutrient Rich:
One of the grains, relatively unknown, tops in nutrients, is Quinoa.
Pronounced keen-wah, this grain is grown in the Andes Mountains in South
America where it was once a staple food for the Incas.

Quinoa has a delicious light, nutty flavor. When it cooks, the grain

Quinoa's greatest hurdle is that it's still relatively unknown to many
cooks, even those with an interest in whole foods and natural
approaches. For the many people who have limited food choices now you
can use quinoa.
A simple recipe for preparing quinoa;
1 cup quinoa
Pinch of sea salt
1 3/4 cups water
Rinse quinoa well with warm water and drain. Quinoa has a natural
coating called saponin that repels insects and birds that creates a
bitter taste. Rinsing with warm water removes the saponin.
Place rinsed quinoa, salt, and water in a pot. Bring to a boil, reduce
heat to low, cover, and let simmer 15-20 minutes, until all the water is
absorbed. Fluff with a fork before serving.
Makes 2 1/2-3 cups
For breakfast add a bit of honey and butter or fruit for a great
stick-to-the-stomach breakfast grain!
Healthy and nourishing adding a bit of change to the diet is great.

Preparing For
Allergy Season!

It's nearing runny nose, sniffles, red draining eyes time in
most parts of the world! And why is that? You ask.
With the unusual warm winter weather in our part of the world
Spring foliage will be appearing all around us and with that
happening comes runny noses and eyes, with coughing, sneezing
and at times low grade fevers. All because of those glorious
beautiful blooms and foliage that enhances the beauty of our
world. Those symptoms are usually from allergies to pollens,
grass and a host of other environmental air factors making so
many miserable. The doctor's offices begin their allergy shots
toward hoping to eliminate the problem. And hope is about all
most will receive from those shots!
Contrary to TV ads, sneezing and runny nose does not always mean
you need to run to the allergist!
An allergy may be an indication of your immune system being out
of sync and needs to be balanced in order to function with the
rest of your body. As annoying as the symptoms of allergy are,
they do serve a purpose - they are an attempt by the body to
wash away the offending allergen.
The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases
indicate that one in five Americans suffers from some form of
allergy. It's estimated that 10 percent of all Americans suffer
from allergic rhinitis, also known as hay fever. Pollens, dust
mites, and pet dander can produce a runny nose, watery eyes,
etc.
Allergies cost Americans more than $600 million annually in lost
wages, with nearly 3.5 million days lost from work. Allergies
cause us to feel awful with a runny nose, watery eyes,
congestion and in some cases fever. Allergies can range from
very mild and almost unnoticed, except for a tired feeling, to
severe with debilitating illness resulting. Allergic reactions
range from life threatening as in the case of allergies to bee
stings or penicillin, also responses as mild as sneezing when
you sniff a flower which will set off your sensitivity.
Environmental factors, eating at the wrong times and fast food
diets with stress, and family history may all increase the risk
for allergies. If you have or think you have allergies, what are
you doing about it?
Dr. Victor Rocine made a statement in 1930 that still holds true
today: "If we eat wrongly, no doctor can cure us; if we eat
rightly NO doctor is needed."
That still holds true! In centuries past people did not have to
pay attention to and did not have to focus so much on what they
ate and there truly was less illness, One fact was because white
bread wasn't as white as today the bread had fiber and
nutrients! Animals weren't fed chemicals, antibiotics or growth
hormones. Fruits, vegetables and grains had sufficient nutrients
without herbicides or pesticides! Synthetic and processed foods
didn't exist. Women spent hours each day in the kitchen
preparing wholesome natural foods.
The medical community, today, would have you believe there are
other causes that require medications, but those who truly watch
their diet and stay away from junk foods will tell you
otherwise. They are also healthier for it.
Hippocrates and Rocine believed that food together with
exercise, rest, sunshine and positive attitude made for a very
healthy person. That still holds true today BUT for the shift in
our foodstuffs. The farmers have depleted their lands by not
letting it rest the seventh year, as had been set aside, nor
crops rotated to rebuild nutrients, as instructed from the
beginning of the earth, preventing the very devastating
depletion of nutrients in the soil. Actually they have been fed
a crock by the chemical industry, that their fertilizers are
sufficient for growing foods. Thereby depleted soils grow
depleted foodstuffs today. We should hold to the same adage of
old - Food, exercise, rest, sunshine and positive attitude along
with today's complete nutritional supplements make for a healthy
person and fewer allergies.
Who's at risk for allergies?
* Fifty percent of Americans are allergic to poison ivy - it
affects about 50 million people a year. Poison ivy can enter our
bodies when we touch it or inhale it (be careful if your
neighbors are burning bushes).
* In the US, one in ten people suffer from some form of allergy.
* Insect bites/stings affect more than 2 million of us--whether
in the form of swelling or inflammation or an anaphylactic
response, which can be life threatening.
* Food allergies are more common in children but do affect
adults, as evident by the epidemic of asthma.
* Grass, weeds and pollen trigger hay fever and allergies.
* People, who have set themselves up with the fast paced life,
fast food, insufficient rest and taking chemicals for headaches,
backaches, etc., which exacerbate allergies. Chemical drugs -
both prescription and OTC - are foreign to your body and should
only be introduced in life threatening illnesses as a last
resort!
SURPRISE - SURPRISE - SURPRISE!
Why are some people allergic to their cats or to certain foods,
while others have no adverse reactions to anything? Of course
these days that's the rare person! This is an area of open
debate and intense research in the traditional medical world.
Children who are breast-fed by allergy-free mothers have fewer
allergies! Simply because their mothers' pass on her immunities
to them.
In 99 out of 100 adults the body is depleted of chemicals, as
the medical profession refers to them. These chemicals are
nothing more than the minerals our body needs to function
properly. In this day and age it is an absolute necessity to put
those minerals into your body by supplementing. The foodstuffs
do not contain enough to give us the proper balance, even if you
eat 100% organic. When your minerals (chemical) balance
is where it should be your system will tend to give you less or
no problems as with allergies and other illnesses and for those
few who that simple step doesn't solve the problem, it will
require rebuilding the immune balance. Balancing the immune
system requires a number of herbs and vitamins to accomplish
that balancing fete!
This I discovered for myself about 10 years ago. I developed a
horrendous array of allergies and was going nuts with the runny
nose, and eyes, headaches, achy body and itchy skin. I
inadvertently discovered those problems subsided after a few
weeks of taking
Ionic Liquid Mineral Complex. I went from "really ready
to move from this part of the country," to the ability of
living here with very little to no symptoms as long as I take
the complex daily. I have a few times sloughed off and not taken
the minerals and then ended up with the allergy symptoms only to
realize I had been lazy and had not taken them for a few days.
Moving into our new house foisted a whole new world of allergies
when my body reacted to the all the chemicals leaching from the
walls, carpet and synthetic lumbers in the new house. That
required a lot of changes but are now in control again.
I discovered in my search for healing of those miserable
allergies that when my immune system was in tune and my mineral
balance tuned up I can be free of symptoms! With the house
allergic reactions it required a recycling air system and
rebuilding my immune system with

The medical profession is so diverse in their beliefs of allergy
causes they have totally overlooked the simple and ordinary cure
or prevention. As usual, they are honed in on a man made
chemical to alleviate the problems and therefore body's becomes
more allergic because of that attitude!
I must say that building the immune system up and eating
properly is not a cure for 100% of the people but at least 99%
of the time. Some are so far gone that not much will help them
unless they can do a complete change in their lifestyle, but
most are not willing to make the changes necessary and want a
magic pill or potent that comes with more severe side effects
sooner or later.

Amount of Ozone Is Found Harmful

A study sponsored by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Centers
for Disease Control and Prevention has found that air even at the
E.P.A.'s current acceptable level of ozone — 80 parts per billion — can
bring on a significantly increased risk of premature death.
More Vital Signs Columns Ozone, the major component of smog, is a
molecule consisting of three oxygen atoms bound together. It can cause
lung damage when inhaled. By applying statistical models to air
pollution, weather and mortality for 98 American cities over a 14-year
period, the researchers determined that an increase of 10 parts per
billion in ozone concentrations measured day to day causes a 0.3 percent
increase in early mortality.
The study will be published in April in the print edition of
Environmental Health Perspectives and is now online at the journal's Web
site.
Michelle L. Bell, the lead author on the study, said that in a city the
size of New York a 0.3 percent increase in mortality was equivalent to
an additional 2,000 deaths a year.
Even very low levels of ozone concentration are dangerous, noted Dr.
Bell, an assistant professor in the School of Forestry and Environmental
Studies at Yale.
"We found strong evidence that if there is any safe level for ozone's
impact on mortality, it is at very low concentrations, nearing natural
background levels," she said. "This means that any reduction in ozone
would benefit public health, even in areas that currently meet
regulatory standards."
The E.P.A. is reviewing the scientific information on ozone to decide
whether to revise the standards set in 1997, Dr. Bell added. "One
hundred million people live in areas that exceed the current E.P.A.
acceptable level," she said.
