Greetings and thank you for subscribing!
Today would have been my mother's 87th birthday,
had she stayed away from doctors and hospitals. She refused to believe
that they could be wrong or that they could be dangerous. Sadly she
found out too late that their medications could kill! Don't make her
mistake. My 89 year old father has gotten smart and is doing great still
off all 8 of his prescriptions and on herbs and minerals only Since the
beginning of September. His prostate cancer still seems to be
non-existent (I'm sure it's still there just dormant and shrunk to
normal size), diabetes gone and he's off the DiaB formula after only
five months, his blood pressure still runs 117 - 122/78 - 80, his
chronic stomach problems are gone not to return, his heart arrhythmia
hasn't reappeared and his blood is smooth and probably will never be a
clot problem as it was with his prescribed heart medications and last
but not least his facial neuralgia isn't bothering him... He says he
will reach his goal to live to be 107. I doubt that but at least he can
be healthy as possible as long as his body decides to hold up...
As the clouds and intermittent rain continue so
does the allergies. All the rain over the last three months has made for
a beautiful spring of wild flowers and early blooming trees, but it also
makes for a miserable time for those with allergies. If you suffer
with allergies get to work rebuilding a healthy immune system so it
won't over react when the triggers hit it. It will take some work but is
totally possible to do! By this time next year you can be free for that
runny nose, eyes, sneezing, coughing, congestion and headaches. Dr.

The Dirty Little Secret Behind the Chlorine in Your
Water

(AquaMD is the water testing division of the American Water Council,
a nationally respected provider of water education and testing services.)
If you are on a public water system -- meaning a utility company
supplies your water -- it's extremely likely it contains chlorine and
disinfection-byproducts.
Water companies have used chlorine as their main disinfecting strategy
for almost a century. In the early years of the 20th century,
chlorination of water was used in Great Britain in an attempt to stop
typhoid fever. Due to some success in Great Britain -- and because
chlorine was so inexpensive -- the chlorination of water began in the
United States in Jersey City, N.J., in 1908, and hasn't stopped since!
Chlorination virtually eliminated waterborne diseases such as cholera,
typhoid, dysentery and hepatitis. Today, utility companies still use
chlorine to prevent and kill bacteria that might otherwise be present in
water supplies. Over the last 30 years, however, a growing body of
research has shown chlorine and its assorted byproducts are very harmful
to your health.
For example, when chlorine interacts with organic matter in water, it
forms disinfection byproducts (DBPs). Two primary DBP categories are
trihalomethanes (TTHMs) and haloacetic acids (HAA5s).
These DBPs have been linked to damaging effects to heart, lung, kidney
and central nervous system as well as cancer. Even worse, the
Environmental Protection Agency recent lowered the level of TTHMs they
will permit in the water supply to 80 ppb (parts per billion).
All About the Money
As always, cost is one reason -- and probably the sole reason -- water
companies prevented this standard from being reduced even further. Water
companies felt it would cost too much to remove a greater amount of
these DBPs from their water, so they pushed for an elevated standard.
Nevertheless, it's telling the EPA sets the goal for some of these
byproducts at 0 because they are so dangerous (unfortunately the EPA
goal is not enforceable).
Water companies do conduct some testing for DBPs in their water supply
and provide the results to their customers. But, for the sake of your
family's health, here's what they aren't telling you:
Levels of these DBPs vary depending on where you are located on their
network. Hence some customers are exposed to much higher levels.
Each individual reacts differently to DBPs. Some people are affected
more than others.
There are times during the year when levels of DBPs increase
dramatically due to the increase of organic matter in the water supply.
But if the average of all the tests a water company conducted in a year
is below the EPA standard, utilities can claim their water is safe.
More Distortions
What's more, here are some recent distortions we've discovered water
companies all over the country are telling their customers:
One water company in New York actually had TTHM levels of 89 ppb. But
because the average level for the year was below 80 ppb, they could
legally claim their water meets all safe drinking water standards.
Similarly, a water company in Pennsylvania recorded TTHM levels of 94
ppb. But because the average was lower than 80 ppb, they told their
customers their water was safe.
Another water company in California logged average TTHM levels of 78
ppb. Since 78 ppb is just below the standard of 80 ppb, they can legally
claim their water is safe.
A Florida water company made the same claims because their TTHM average
was 73 ppb.
I'd like to tell you these are isolated examples, but they're not. They
are the norm.
If DBPs are in your water, you will be exposed to them primarily by
inhaling steam vapor when you shower (DBPs easily escape into the air).
If DBPs are in your water, I urge you to have them removed to protect
your family's health.

SPRING CLEANING WITH NONTOXIC CLEANERS

Spring cleaning goes beyond normal everyday cleaning. It's a major
project of home revitalization: to make everything new by removing dust
and dirt, to make sure everything is in good repair, and to put things
in order, so that you will have everything in your household in working
condition for
the coming year.
Here are some tasks that are traditionally included in a major spring
cleaning:
* Put away winter clothes and take out spring and summer clothing.
* Sweep and vacuum floors, walls, and corners.
* Wash floors and carpets?
* Clean window panes, sills, and frames. Replace thick winter curtains
that keep heat in with light summer curtains that allow breezes through.
Remove storm windows, hang up screens.
* Brush or vacuum stuffed furniture and remove spots.
* Wash every surface in every room that has accumulated dust or grime.
I like to finish a spring cleaning by bringing in loads of spring
flowers and placing them in vases in every room.
USE NONTOXIC & NATURAL CLEANERS
With so much cleaning going on, I always make sure to use cleaning
products that are simple, safe, and eco-friendly.
When choosing a cleaning product for a specific job, I use the
least-toxic, most-effective product, in the smallest effective amount.
Cleaning products are the only household products regulated by the
Consumer Product Safety Commission under the 1960 Federal Hazardous
Substances Labeling Act, which requires products that contain hazardous
chemicals to carry warning labels. In general, it is best to avoid using
products that say "Danger," "Poison," or "Warning," on the label. Many
safer products carry the "Caution" label, even though they are
acceptable to use. Fortunately, the least toxic products voluntarily
disclose their complete ingredients on the label, so you can determine
for yourself the safety of the product. There are even cleaning products
now made with organically-grown ingredients.
Nontoxic cleaning actually requires very few specialized ingredients. I
do all of my cleaning with a squirt bottle of fifty-fifty distilled
white vinegar and water, liquid soap, and baking soda. For laundry I use
a natural soap powder and chlorine-free oxygen bleach. Other substances
I have on hand for occasional cleaning needs are salt, lemon juice,
borax, and chlorine-free Bon Ami scouring powder.
SIMPLIFY YOUR CLEANING
While scrubbing away at your spring cleaning, there are two things you
can resolve to do in the coming year that will make cleaning easier.
These will also reduce the amount of cleaning products you use, saving
resources and money. But the most important thing to me is that they
save time and reduce the amount of cleaning needed.
First, I incorporate preventive maintenance. I put a cookie sheet on the
rack under a casserole that is likely to spill over, for example, which
pre-empts the need to scour baked on food from the oven. If the
casserole spills, the cookie sheet can be effortlessly soaked clean in a
few inches of water in the kitchen sink.
I also keep in mind the adage "A stitch in time saves nine," which means
if you take that first stitch to fix the tear before it gets bigger,
you'll save having to make nine stitches later. In cleaning, this
translates to wiping up the spill when it happens, cleaning surfaces
before they are caked with dust and grease, just cleaning as you go
while there's not much to clean. It's only when we don't clean that we
may need harsh chemicals to tackle what would have been an easy job
earlier.

In some parts of the world green foods are in
season or getting ready to pop their green little heads out of the
ground waiting to be picked and enjoyed. Those greens are great health
foods as well as tasty… Today let's cover two of those healthy
nutritious greens!
Some people use these greens interchangeably and
accept them as the same green. Kale and collards are similar in many
respects, differing in little more than the forms of their leaves. They
are, in effect, primitive cabbages that have been retained through
thousands of years. The Greeks grew kale and collards, although they
made no such distinction between them as we make today. Well before the
Christian era the Romans grew several kinds, including those with large
leaves and stalks and a mild flavor; a crisp-leaved form; some with
small stalks and small, sharp-tasting leaves; a broad-leaved form like
collards; and others with curled leaves and a fine flavor. "Coles"
were described also in the 1st, 3rd, 4th, and 13th centuries by European
writers.
Kale and collards
have remained minor commercial crops in the United States, although
collards are the standard winter greens in home gardens of the South.
Neither crop thrives in hot weather as it gives the plants a strong,
unattractive flavor. Cool growing weather, fall frosts, and mild
winters, however, impart a high sugar content and fine flavor.
Kale and Collards are conquering heros of green foods.
"Kale"
is often used to decorate produce cases at the grocery store, but
would better serve you as a steamed up batch of health building food for
you and your family. Known for its detoxing properties, which is good
for cleaning the body of its winter comfort food goop and preparing it
to take on the summer BBQ's and beach parties! Kale is often called "borecole,"
and in America collards are sometimes called "sprouts." "Kale"
is a Scottish word derived from coles or caulis, terms
used by the Greeks and Romans in referring to the whole cabbage like
group of plants. The German word Kohl has the same origin.
"Collards" is a corruption of coleworts or colewyrts,
Anglo-Saxon terms literally meaning "cabbage plants." With much the same
nutrients as Kale.
These leafy nonheading cabbages bear the Latin name
Brassica oleracea variety acephala, the last term meaning
"without a head." They have many names in many languages, as a
result of their great antiquity and widespread use. Apparently none of
the several principal forms of kale and collards that we know today are
new. All have been known for at least two thousand years.
All varieties of collards appear rather similar,
but the kales show interesting diversity: tall and short; highly curled
and plain leaved; blue-green, yellow-green, and red; erect and
flat-growing; in various combinations and gradations of these
characters.
Both are full of nutrition;
Vitamin C, Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin,Pantothenic acid, Vitamin
B-6, Folate, Folic acid, Folate, Vitamin B-12. Vitamin A, Retinol,
Vitamin A and Vitamin E along with minerals such as Calcium, Iron,
Magnesium, Phosphorus,Potassium,Sodium, Zinc, Copper, Manganese, and
Selenium. Along with important Amino Acids such as; Tryptophan,
Threonine, Isoleucine, Leucine, Lysine, Methionine, Cystine,
Phenylalanine , Tyrosine, Valine, Arginine, Histidine, Alanine,
Aspartic acid, Glutamic acid, Glycine, Proline and Serine.
Kale and Collards
is one of the best vegetables you can eat as preventative medicine.
Touted to help prevent several types of cancer, in particular lung
cancer. Each contains more carotenoids (anticancer agents) than just
about any other green vegetable.
Leafy greens are officially "in season" in the winter months, but
tend to be available year-round. Choose leaves that are crisp and fresh
and have a deep green color, with no yellow tinge. Smaller leaves have a
milder flavor, can be cooked whole, and often have stems tender enough
to eat. With larger leaves, you'll need to cut out and discard the
stems, and then chop the leaves into small pieces.
You will want to eat both either raw or cooked.
Some of the carotenoids are destroyed during heat, but cooking but at
the same time makes more carotene available for bodily use. Collards can
be eaten raw but I believe has a better flavor when steamed… Collard
greens have a much softer, sweeter taste than kale. When you combine the
two greens in the same dish, the mild collard flavor mitigates the
sharpness of the kale.
An extra half cup a day will give you cancer-blocking benefits. And
smokers, you need to load up on them as it will boost your resistance to
developing smoking-related cancers.
Store kale and collard greens in dry plastic bags in the
refrigerator for up to three days. You can also cook the greens, and
store them in the freezer in sealed plastic bags. They'll keep for
months, so you can use them spontaneously in soups or casseroles when
you don't have time to get to the store.
I grew up with the term "mess o' greens" when we were having
them on the dinner table. That's southern speech. Greens of all kinds
have been staples in the Southern U.S. Diet for as long as the south has
existed, which is where my family resides. In just about every garden
there will be an area of all types of greens but kale and collards seem
to be the most prolifically grown…
Here is a suggested Kale recipe;
My favorite way of eating Kale or Collards and sometimes both mixed is
Sautéed in Olive Oil
Wash well and dry one bunch of kale (or ½ bunch of kale and 1/2
bunch collards) and chop into bite size pieces. Chop a couple of
green onions. Finely chop 2 cloves of garlic. Put one tablespoon of
extra virgin olive oil into a saute pan heated on medium low. Throw in
kale, onion and garlic and sauté until wilted. I sometimes will add 2
Tablespoons of water and a dash, to taste of hot sauce; cover and simmer
until tender. Either way is excellent.
Season with sea salt and squeeze on a little fresh
lemon juice or seasoned Rice Vinegar along with those little green
pickled peppers. Serve with fresh sliced tomatoes and hot corn
bread!
According to folklore,
collards served with black-eyed peas and
hog jowl on New Year's Day promises a year of good luck and financial
reward, hanging a fresh leaf over your door will ward off evil spirits,
and a fresh leaf placed on the forehead promises to cure a headache.

Is It Truly CFS (Chronic Fatigue
Syndrome) Or Something Else?
Sitting in a meeting with a young man about 30 years my junior
and hearing him complain about his headaches and fatigue, I
questioned him about his water intake? He promptly informed me
that "water tastes nasty" and he seldom ever drank it.
I've heard that a lot over the years from patients who
complained of CFS and/or headaches, joint, back or leg pain. For
the few that would listen to me and followed my suggestion of
adding several glasses of water to their daily intake, most
found almost immediate relief and I would receive a phone call
or a thank you card later.
I can honestly say I have only known one, of the many doctors I
worked with, ask a patient about their water intake when stating
those complaints! I have even heard doctors say that any liquid
will do! Well, I don't believe your kidney, liver, pancreas,
intestines or blood plasma would say that. Those organs are
there to filter and clean and when they are overloaded with
liquids that contain toxins, sugars, colors, chemicals they have
to work harder and cannot clean and filter as efficiently!
What happens to your car's oil filter if you do not give it
clean oil regularly? Clogs and blows the engine! Your body's
organs will do the same thing when not given clean water!
Do you take a bath or shower in soda, juice, coffee, tea or
alcohol? I thought not! If you did your skin would clog and you
would be one grey, wrinkled sick mess. Same holds true for your
internal organs! Water IS NECESSARY for your body's organs to
work properly!
Are you one of those who does not drink water? Did you know that
the research from the University of Utah, Seattle's Fred
Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and several British research
groups found that;
75% of Americans are chronically dehydrated. That's more than
half!
That 37% of Americans thirst mechanism is so weak that it's
often mistaken for hunger pangs.
Even MILD dehydration will slow down one's metabolism as much as
3%.
Could some obesity be caused by the organs needing cleaning? One
glass of water shuts down midnight hunger pangs for almost 100%
of the dieters studied in a U-Washington study. Are those truly
hunger pains or dehydration?
Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. Loss of
energy, dizziness, headaches, back, leg and/or neck pains occur
when the spinal column is even slightly dehydrated! Waking up
with headaches and/or fatigue could simply mean your body needs
WATER! Research over the years indicate that; 8-10 glasses of
water a day could significantly ease back and joint pain for up
to 80% of sufferers.
A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term
memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the
computer screen or on a printed page.
Drinking 5 glasses of water daily decreases the
risk of breast cancer by 79%, and one
is 50% less likely to develop bladder cancer.
I suspect that a multitude of people who have been diagnosed
with CFS is nothing more than chronic dehydration!
If you suffer from any of the above maladies I suggest you
increase your water intake, daily! This does not mean you should
be drinking that poisonous tap water that is
unfiltered/unpurified. Water should not have a taste or smell and
should be colorless. In this day that can only be obtained by
having a water purification/filtration system of some type in
your home! Bottled water isn't the answer either. Read

Predictions Vary for Refuge as Drilling Plan Develops

ASHINGTON, March 19 - With Congress apparently poised to open the
coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil exploration,
the nation is on the verge of a major experiment. The results, in terms
of oil production and the effects on the landscape and wildlife, like
the local herd of 120,000 caribou, are largely unknown.
President Bush has portrayed the area as central to increasing domestic
oil production. Yet one crucial question is whether there is enough oil
scattered underneath the coastal plain section of the 19-million-acre
refuge to be commercially viable.
Oil industry experts said in interviews that they believe that the
gambles of those companies who bid for leases to explore and drill for
oil would probably pay off. But in recent years some of the
multinational companies that were actively pressing for opportunities to
drill in the refuge have been less visible in their support.
Once companies decide to drill, it is unclear how extensive the network
of drill pads and connecting roads, pipelines and shelters and supply
vehicles will be, and how they will change the landscape and the habitat
of the animals that move through the area.
During last week's Senate debate, which marked a turning point in the
long struggle over energy and environmental policy, supporters of
drilling argued that the development would be minimal. "When we talk
about the roadless areas we have available for exploration, we mean it,"
said Senator Lisa Murkowski, Republican of Alaska. "We do mean that we
are going to put down an ice road that will disappear when the summer
comes."
But there are other areas of Alaska's northern coast that can give some
indication of how development may proceed. Once exploration was over and
drilling had begun in other Alaska oil facilities, like the Alpine field
west of Prudhoe Bay, the concept of "roadless" became more fungible as
gravel roads were constructed within the sites. Responding to questions
about this in a recent environmental impact statement on oil development
in an area farther west, Interior Department officials wrote, "the term
'roadless' does not mean an absence of roads. Rather, it indicates an
attempt to minimize the construction of permanent roads."
And the gradual warming of the arctic climate in recent years has nearly
halved the length of time that ice roads - constructed and used when the
temperature of the permafrost reaches minus 5 degrees Celsius - can be
used by equipment like the 64,000-pound exploratory rigs that employ
seismic imaging technology.
At the same time, the disturbance of surface land can be reduced because
oil drills are now able to probe long distances at a slant. At the
Alpine field, for example, 125 miles of holes extend below ground from
the central drill pad, said Henri Bisson, the Alaska director for the
federal Bureau of Land Management.
Despite the technological advances, some biologists remain concerned
about how one of Alaska's larger caribou herds, which in the spring and
summer graze and calve along the coastal plain of the wildlife refuge,
will react to the intermittent industrialization. A herd whose habitat
was crisscrossed by 30 years' worth of development at Prudhoe Bay
continued to expand.
The desolate and dry coastal plain that reaches out toward the Beaufort
Sea has become a talisman for both parties.
The pro-drilling forces see its opening as an important statement about
the country's willingness to develop domestic oil resources. Major
environmental groups see the South Carolina-sized refuge as a sacred,
undeveloped place at the northern edge of the continent that should be
passed on as is to future generations.
But beyond the ideology, there is the question of how the exploration
might work. The amount of oil there remains unknown; a test well was
drilled about 20 years ago, but the companies and the state have kept
the results secret.
"We don't know if there's any real oil there," Gov. Frank H. Murkowski
said in a telephone interview last week. The most common prediction by
the pro-drilling forces, based on publicly available surveys by the
United States Geological Survey, is that pools and pockets containing as
much as 10 billion barrels of oil lie beneath the coastal plain of the
refuge. Mr. Murkowski said "there's no question that different
corporations have different ideas" about the amount of oil and the
ability to recover it at a profit, but he added, "Believe you me, when
those areas are put up for lease, every major oil company in the world
will be there bidding."
