Let's Beat Chronic Heart Failure!
Chronic Heart Failure (CHF) and a whole host of other
heart ailments are increasing daily, if my reading of the
medical reports and journals are correct! Since they
usually under report, you can bet they are far worse
than those reports and studies reflect.
A research group in Bonn Germany used 54 CHF
patients and compared them with 34 people who did not
have CHF and they found that over a period of five
months, with fasting blood samples collected from the
54 CHF patients and compared to similar samples taken
from a group of the 34 healthy subjects without
CHF that the CHF group fell short in the vitamin D dept.
In fact some in the CHF group had D levels that were
only half of the average level found in the other group.
Furthermore, those with the lowest vitamin D levels
tended to have the most severe symptoms of CHF.
My gripe with this study and most all of others studies
are that they did not, nor do not look at complete
vitamin or mineral content, which I'm sure would
paint a whole different picture. They would have
shown other nutrients lacking as well! When the real
story is told then more people can start to beat
heart disease and other illnesses! We would also
lighten the drug industries pocketbooks, so that very
likely will never happen.
One won't do it!
When I look at several different studies that are looking
at single elements, such as zinc, potassium, selenium,
B vitamins and iron I find that CHF patients as well as
cancer patients are lacking in many more than one
vitamin or one mineral. I would like to see them look at
all nutrient angles and then reach a conclusion, that I'm
sure would be reached. That being; those patients need
to up their daily intake of ALL MINERALS AND VITAMINS.
Without proper mineral balance you cannot
absorb the vitamins that you put into your body! Nor can
your body fight off free-radicals! See

This fact has been known for 68+ years.
So a mineral supplementation should come first then
judge if your diet is sufficient in vitamin content and you
are absorbing them sufficiently. Doctors are beginning
to tell patients to take vitamins and minerals but not
elaborating on what kind, how much or when!
Our farmers are letting us down in the fresh foods
department and our food manufacturers are more
in tuned to making money than healthy people! The
manufacturers that want to appear to be looking
at our best interests are adding supplements are not
adding sufficient to make a noticeable difference as
most are bound in sugars, syrups and/or fats making them
ineffective!
A couple of decades ago Dr. Linus Pauling the
double Nobel Prize winner stated;

DISEASE, AND EVERY AILMENT TO A MINERAL
DEFICIENCY!" His peers sneered and laughed at him
and mostly ignored his warnings. But what would you
expect from a medical profession run by the drug industry?
It is only in the last few years that his statement is
beginning to come to the forefront of health and studies
are proving his statement to be true!

Reinventing the banana
Chiquita considers flavors in attempt to improve earnings

CINCINNATI -- Bananas flavored with the hint of another fruit could help
Chiquita International Brands Inc. become the Starbucks of the produce
world, the company's leader says, envisioning a larger, creamier or
sweeter banana.
Chiquita has taken its bananas to the research lab as part of an effort
to make the fruit more appealing to consumers -- and to persuade them to
pay more, president and CEO Fernando Aguirre told The Associated Press
in an interview.

Citrullis lanatus!
Green on the outside and red or yellow on the
inside! Nothing says summer like this subtly crunch, thirst quenching
fruit. A nutritious food best to eat by itself. I know summer is really
here when my husband starts looking to purchase a watermelon!
Although watermelons can now be found in the
markets throughout the year, the season for watermelon is in the summer
when they are sweet and of the best quality. More Watermelon will be
probably be eaten this week than any other time in the U.S.
Watermelons are low in calories and very
nutritious. Recent research suggests that lycopene, a powerful
antioxidant, helps prevent some forms of cancer and cardiovascular
disease. Research shows that consuming foods that contain lycopene are
associated with a decreased risk of prostate and cervical cancer.
Watermelon is related to the cantaloupe, squash and
pumpkin as well as some other plants that grow on ground vines.
Watermelons can be round, oblong or spherical in shape and feature thick
green rinds that are often spotted or striped. They range in size from a
few pounds to upward of ninety pounds. The biggest watermelon grown
according to the 1996 Guiness Book of World Records weighed in at 262
pounds!
Health Benefits
While the watermelon does not contain a large
amount of nutrients it still is considered a healthy food! This
delectable thirst-quencher may also help quench the inflammation that
contributes to conditions like asthma, atherosclerosis, diabetes, colon
cancer, and arthritis. According to research conducted at the University
of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, men who consumed a lycopene-rich diet
were half as likely to suffer a heart attack as those who had little or
no lycopene in their diets. Red meat watermelon is rich in lycopene,
second only to the tomato.
Watermelon is also high in vitamin C and vitamin A,
in the form of disease-fighting beta carotene.
Watermelon also contains potassium, which is known
to help control blood pressure and possibly prevent strokes as well as
necessary for a regular heart beat.
Watermelon is not a commonly allergenic food, is
not included in the list of 20 foods that most frequently contain
pesticide residues, and is also NOT KNOWN to contain goitrogens,
oxalates, or purines.
Many new varieties of watermelons have been
developed in recent years. Yellow and seedless types are finding an
increasing share of the specialty watermelon market. Small excellent
quality "icebox" melons are also becoming increasingly popular.

set if the plant is under moisture or temperature stress.
Choosing the right watermelon!
Look the watermelon over, choose a firm,
symmetrical watermelon that is free of bruises, cuts and dents.
Lift it up - the watermelon should be heavy for its
size. Watermelon is 92% water, that accounts for most of its weight.
Turn it over - on the underside of the watermelon
there should be a creamy yellow spot from where it sat on the ground and
ripened in the sun.
Following these tips will help you pick the best
watermelon available.
History
Originating in Africa, watermelons were first
cultivated in Egypt where testaments to their legacy were recorded in
hieroglyphics painted on building walls. The fruit was held is such
regard that it was placed in the tombs of many Egyptian kings. It is not
surprising that watermelon played such an important role in this
country, and subsequently in countries in the Mediterranean region,
since water was often in short supply in these areas, and people could
depend upon watermelon for its thirst-quenching properties.
Watermelons were brought to China around the 10th
century and then to the Western Hemisphere shortly after the discovery
of the New World. In Russia, where much of the commercial supply of
watermelons is grown, there is a popular wine made from this fruit. In
addition to Russia, the leading commercial growers of watermelon include
China, Turkey, Iran and the United States.
Tips for Preparing Watermelon:
Wash the watermelon before cutting it to prevent
introducing germs into the melon on cutting. Due to its large size, you
will probably not be able to run it under water in the sink. Instead,
wash it with a wet cloth or paper towel.
Depending upon the size that you desire, there are
many ways to cut a watermelon. The flesh can be sliced, cubed or scooped
into balls. Watermelon is delicious to eat as is, while it also makes a
delightful addition to a fruit salad. Jam, sorbet and juice are some
nutritious and delicious things you can make with watermelon.
While many people are just accustomed to eating the
juicy flesh of the watermelon, both the seeds and the rind are also
edible.

Did we really expect anything more from the drug industry?
FDA: Most Drug Makers Skip Study Listings
WASHINGTON (AP) - The drug industry is largely ignoring a
federal law requiring that thousands of medical studies be
listed on a government database, federal research suggests.
The Internet-based database, ClinicalTrials.gov, opened in 2000.
It's not meant to be a comprehensive list, but any study of a
treatment's effectiveness against a serious disease is supposed
to be listed. The requirements were further spelled out for
industry in 2002 Food and Drug Administration guidelines.
An FDA check against its own internal research lists shows that
in 2002, just 48 percent of industry-funded studies for cancer
therapies alone were reported to the public database. In
contrast, more than 90 percent of National Cancer
Institute-funded studies were listed, said FDA Associate
Commissioner Theresa Toigo.
The FDA hopes to finish its evaluation of 2002 study listings by
year's end, but Toigo said there are no signs that treatments
for other diseases fared better - or that compliance has
improved much since.
