8 Medical Lies and Why I Abandoned Medicine

By education and by trade, I was a drug chemist. My passion for science
motivated a successful career in drug design and synthesis ? in both
academia and industry. As a scientist, I witnessed first-hand the
priorities of international pharmaceutical companies (Big Pharma), which
ranked wealth first and health a distant second.
In the pharmaceutical industry, making money supercedes science. Science
no longer prevails in medicine. Instead, modern medicine has been
democratized. Drug approval is a simple matter of 51% telling the other
49% that a prescription drug is safe and necessary. The outcome: deadly
drugs are approved for use among misinformed medical doctors and
patients. Herein lies a story of deceit and a chemist's abandonment of
modern medicine.
My suspicion of modern medicine began while I was employed by Eli Lilly
to design a new generation of Hormone Replacement Therapy (HRT) drugs.
Such drugs include tamoxifen and raloxifene. Initially, these drugs were
thought to block estrogen receptors (excess estrogen can initiate cancer
growth) and thereby halt cancer. As time progressed, though, it was
learned that they were also capable of activating estrogen receptors.
The end result was a biochemical environment favorable to cancer growth
among users.[1] The Journal of the American Medical Association
recognized this trend and stated "our data add to the growing body of
evidence that recent long-term use of HRT is associated with an
increased risk of breast cancer and that such use may be related
particularly to lobular tumors."
The risk of cancer associated with HRT drugs was obscured from doctors
by drug companies. This can be seen by the fact that tamoxifen is the
gold-standard used by medical doctors to fight cancer among their
patients, particularly breast cancer. This explains why medical doctors
might not notice its ability to cause cancer ? the patient already has
it.
At any rate, my task was made clear: Design HRT "knock-offs" that are
effective without causing cancer.
My attempt to design safer alternatives was unsuccessful. And after one
year, the project was ended. However, access to HRT drugs like
tamoxifen was not. They remained on the market.
The fuel driving the continued use of HRT drugs was disinformation via
Direct-To-Consumer (DTC) advertising. Since 1962, monitoring DTC
advertising has been the sole responsibility of the Food and Drug
Administration (FDA). But in a ghastly conflict of interests, the FDA
granted the duty of DTC advertising to the pharmaceutical companies in
1997. Officially, this was done as a means of "promoting health
awareness to ensure health and safety." Unofficially, it was done to
sell more drugs. DTC advertising dictated that all women over 50 should
use HRT to remain healthy. Women scurried to their doctors to ask if "HRT
was right for them." My suspicion grew into conflict.
The disinformation campaign behind HRT drugs was not an isolated case.
I learned that drug advertising and science are frequently in direct
opposition to each other. For example:
DTC advertising dictates that lowering cholesterol prevents heart
disease. Science proves otherwise.
DTC advertising dictates that an aspirin a day will keep heart
attack away. Science proves otherwise.
DTC advertising dictates that depression is a disease that must be
treated with prescription drugs. Science proves otherwise.
DTC advertising dictates that ADHD is a disease and that our children
must be treated with amphetamines. Science proves
otherwise.
DTC advertising dictates that infants must be vaccinated to prevent
childhood illness. Science proves otherwise.
DTC advertising dictates that blood pressure must be controlled via a
lifetime of servitude to prescription drugs. Science proves
otherwise.
DTC advertising dictates that chemotherapy is your first line of defense
against deadly cancer. Science proves otherwise.
DTC advertising dictates that Type II diabetes must be treated with
daily insulin use. Science proves otherwise.
By spreading the aforementioned health myths, DTC advertising forges a
belief among the general public which asserts that drugs ? not lifestyle
habits and nutrition - confer health and longevity. And although, in
reality, medicine is only necessary for sick people in times of
emergency, DTC advertising has been wildly successful in convincing
people that being healthy requires a lifetime of prescription drug use.
While it's true that the advertising usually mentions the potential side
effects of drugs, doctors tend to discount them. They simply
regurgitate the pharmaceutical-company line that "the benefits of a drug
outweigh the risks." Don't believe it.
Western Medicine's plague of deception is deadlier than any virus,
illicit drugs, and terrorism combined. Well-documented in scientific
journals and reported by media outlets nationwide, FDA approved drugs
are killing an estimated 106,000 people every year.[2] That equates to
one individual dying every five minutes from "approved" drugs - 300
people dying every day. Which is twice as many deaths in a single year
from "approved drugs" as the total number of U.S. deaths from the
Vietnam War.[3] This does not count death by hospital medical error,
which adds 98,000 deaths to the atrocity. [4] If not killed, an
estimated 2 million people are victims of
drug-induced illnesses.[5] These may include drug-induced obesity,
cancer, kidney disease, autism, depression and heart failure.
Hypnotized by DTC advertising, people are oblivious to the ill effects
of prescription drug use. This is evidenced by their willingness to
swallow whatever "the doctor ordered." They drug their children, hop the
borders to smuggle inexpensive prescription drugs back into the U.S.,
beg their congressman for discounts and pay a lifetime of insurance fees
in order to snatch up these silent killers. The avalanche of DTC
advertising has smothered common sense.
For the general public and medical doctors to fully grasp the effect of
Modern Medicine's Deceit, they have to judge the situation by what a
drug is actually accomplishing, rather than what the drug company ads
and pharmaceutically-compliant politicians insist. The health benefits
of prescription drugs are illusory. Step away from the hypnotic drug
ads, close the ghost-written medical journals, discard research studies
dominated by statistical contortionists and give yourself a
prescription-drug reality check: Very few prescription drugs have any
value outside of emergency medicine and those that do can usually be
replaced with safer and less expensive natural medicine. This was a
troublesome lesson for me, as an aspiring drug chemist, to learn.
Unfortunately, it was not the only
one.
Humanitarianism among Big Pharma has been abandoned. The technical
skills of chemists are not being used for humanitarian purposes. They
are being used in a deadly game of profiteering. Those at risk are not
the misinformed, high-paid medical doctors but rather their patients.
Becoming aware of this ripple effect of DTC advertising led to my
abandonment of modern medicine.
I had to face the cold, hard facts: Western Medicine has become a
billion dollar empire not out of keen science, but rather deceit. The
end result has been one nation under drugs. This subjugation has set a
standard of health in America that, by definition, is sick care
disguised as health care.
Forward thinking chemists recognize the deadly trend. But few have the
luxury of speaking out or resigning. The majority of chemists in the
U.S. are foreigners. Their career secures them the right to live and
work in the U.S. This demands allegiance to their employer, regardless
of the end result of their labors. Admittedly, that this is an
intentional act of Big Pharma is speculative.
Individuals outside of the drug industry often question my conflict with
Big Pharma. How can a single person denounce a philosophy adhered to by
millions of medical doctors? That is simple: I ignore the majority
thinking that is steeped in disinformation. I stand firm in science.
Truth in science requires only one scientist to verify reproducible
results in the face of pharmaceutical tyranny.
Science proves that habits, not drugs, create and eradicate disease. The
current devastation of prescription drugs is a warning that healthy
lifestyle and nutrition habits must replace blind worship of
prescription drugs in the pursuit of life-extension. As people obtain
better health intelligence and heed this warning, drug use will recede.
A new model of health care based on common sense, not profiteering, will
emerge.

The study, conducted in Italy, found statistically
significant increases in lymphomas and leukemias among female rats given
aspartame. The smallest amount of aspartame (20 milligrams per

But the remedies most
conventional doctors offer you come with some serious side

Informed Consent - Are You Really "informed"?
The principle of informed consent means that, as a
patient, you understand the nature of the medical care you're going to
receive and accept the risks involved.
That's the principle. In practice, some of those "informed consent"
forms are as hard to understand as an insurance policy.
*The University of Minnesota reviewed some medical consent forms and
compared them to other publications using the Fry scale. The higher the
score, the harder something is to understand. Here's what researchers
reported in the American Journal of Medical Sciences:
*The average Ann Landers column has a Fry score of 7.67, which means
that 75 percent of the population can understand it.
*Reader's Digest has a score of 9.95, and can be easily understood by 69
percent of the population.
*But the informed consent forms, the ones that you bet your life on, had
a score of 15.03. That means only about 37 percent of the people reading
them could understand what they were all about.
LENA'S COMMENT: You can
understand everything but your medical rights. How ridiculous is that?
Well it may be because our leaders don't want you to know that anyone
has a right to your records... The last law that was written (2003) to
so-call "make it easier on you" was actually written so the drug,
insurance and government has access to your files without you being notified
but if you understood that you wouldn't like it and there might be an
outcry to government officials that they just don't want as it affects
their pocketbooks...

A Garden Produces More Than Just Veggies!
As I watched the bees buzz around our garden I got to
thinking about the contribution that will come from their buzzing and
gathering nectar… Honey being the top one along with a few others! A
garden gives off more than just vegetables!
Bees, just like medicine, has their specialty field as you will see when
reading this article.
Honey that has long been known in folk
medicine circles as a "magic elixir" is known to have antioxidant
properties, which we know is necessary to ward off illness and diseases.
After adding 4 tablespoons of buckwheat honey (buckwheat honey comes
from bees that gather their pollen from the buckwheat plant only) to
their daily diet, participants in a study showed an increase in their
levels of antioxidants in their blood. But when it comes to
antioxidants, not all honey is created equal: The darker the honey, the
more antioxidants it has.
Vitamins in honey are said to be A, B1 (Thiamin), B2 (Riboflavin),
Nicotinic acid (niacin), B6 (Pyridoxine), B12 (Cyanocobaltamine, C
(Ascorbic acid), D, E (Tocopherol), H (Biotin), Pantothenic acid and
Folic acid. Minerals in honey are said to be Calcium, Copper, Iodine,
Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorous, Potassium, Sodium and Zinc. Honey has
tested out to have antibacterial properties as well as sterilizing of
wounds and sores. Whether it's the make up or the way the different
vitamins and minerals are put together in honey, we don't know but it is
a known medicinal addition.
Honey is known to improve food assimilation and useful for chronic and
infective intestinal problems such as constipation, duodenal ulcers and
liver disturbances. Reports abound with successful treatment of various
gastrointestinal disorders. Honey, when poured into open wounds, bed
sores, ulcers, varicose ulcers and burns, twice a day heals the worst of
the worst. It prevents infections, promotes tissue regeneration, and
reduces scarring best when used in its pure, unprocessed form. If
applied immediately, honey reduces blistering of burns and speeds
regeneration of new tissue. Many case histories are reported of this
happening. Homogenized honey isn't useful for anything but a
sweetener as the healing properties are removed in the
homogenization process.
In the alternatives health communities non-homogenized honey is a
well known remedy for colds and mouth, throat or bronchial
irritations and infections. The benefits, apart from antibacterial
effects, are assumed to relate to the soothing and relaxing effect of
fructose.
Honey, beeswax, and various other bee products have quite a following in
many Asian countries, as well as in Russia and the rest of Eastern
Europe. One of the biggest health claims is that bee venom cures
multiple sclerosis, but I find no historical cases to back up the claim
even though I've read of people using bee stings for that purpose as
well as for arthritis. I don't doubt it though...
Honey is far better to use as a sweetener for diabetics than sugar as
insulin levels are lower when compared to the uptake of equal caloric
values of other foods. My belief is, nature made our body's to react to
natural substances better than man made sugar, and some data exists to
back up that belief.
Then, there's the purity of beeswax candles compared to the paraffin
candles most people burn in their homes. I hate to break it to you
romantic types, but paraffin candles are just a spiffed-up version of
petroleum products with large doses of chemical fragrance. And they
release decidedly unromantic elements, such as soot and smoke, while
burning. Burning paraffin candles has been compared to
breathing in diesel fumes. I don't know about you, but that would kill
the mood for me. But beeswax candles don't have that problem. In
fact, burning beeswax produces negative ions, which are nature's air
purifiers.
Honey can be used as an alternative to sugar in baking, cereals and any
thing you want to add a bit of flavor!
If you find yourself with a cough make your own cough syrup.
Herbal/Honey cough syrup
1 tablespoon licorice root
1 tablespoon marshmallow root
1 tablespoon plantain leaf
1 teaspoon thyme leaf
1 pint purified/filtered water
4 tablespoons honey
1/8 teaspoon anise essential oil (optional)
Prepare a triple-strength tea by simmering the herbs in water for 10
minutes, then steeping for 20 minutes. Strain the tea, then stir in
honey and glycerin while the tea is still warm. Add optional essential
oil. Take 1 tablespoon at a time. Stored in a cool place, this syrup
will keep for 2 weeks. In the refrigerator, it will keep for several
months.
This recipe is suitable for children, but not for
infants, who should not have honey.
6 fresh garlic cloves (minced)
2 cups purified/filtered water
1 tablespoon white vinegar
3/4 cup honey
Bring water and minced garlic to a boil. Turn burner off and let steep
for about 20 minutes.
Put into Vita Mixer and liquefy (no vitamixer - let set until cool, then
strain). Add vinegar and honey mix well and let sit until cool, then
refrigerate.
1 Tablespoon three or four times a day. Much better than OTC cough
preparations!

Merck hid Vioxx dangers for decade-lawyer

ANGLETON, Texas (Reuters) - Merck & Co. Inc. (MRK) for years hid
clinical evidence that showed Vioxx posed a heart attack risk, said the
lawyer for the plaintiff in the first state civil trial against
drugmaker's popular painkiller.
"We've seen a decade of deception by Merck," Mark Lanier told the jury
in closing arguments on Wednesday.
Merck pulled the drug off the market in September, saying studies showed
long-term usage raised patients' risk of heart attack or stroke.
During the six-week trial, Lanier presented internal Merck documents
that showed some of the company's scientists were worried about
heightened heart attack risks long before Vioxx was withdrawn from the
market.
The case pits the drug giant against Carol Ernst, the widow of Robert
Ernst, a Wal-Mart employee and marathon runner who died in 2001 at the
age of 59.
An autopsy report said Ernst died of arrhythmia, or irregular heartbeat,
although the medical examiner who wrote that report testified at the
trial that she believed a heart attack was to blame.
That issue is key in the case, since there are no medical studies
showing that Vioxx caused arrhythmia.
Merck's experts have said that there was no evidence Ernst died from a
heart attack and disputed plaintiff claims that a blood clot caused by
Vioxx could have been responsible.
Merck's studies have also showed the higher risk of heart attack and
stroke began only after patients had taken Vioxx for 18 months, far
longer than the six to eight months Ernst was on the drug.
FIRST LAWSUIT
The case is the first of more than 4,200 civil suits filed against the
Whitehouse Station, New Jersey-based company for Vioxx, which was
introduced in 1999.
Wall Street has been closely watching the Vioxx litigation, since
Merck's liability in all the cases could run into tens of billions of
dollars. At the end of last year, Merck established a reserve of $675
million to help cover its legal costs.
The arthritis drug had been taken by about 20 million people at the time
of its recall and contributed more than $2.5 billion in sales for Merck
in 2003, about 10 percent of the company's total revenue.
Vioxx is the trade name for rofecoxib, part of a class of drugs called
NSAIDs. A type of painkiller known as a COX-2 inhibitor, it was touted
as a pain and inflammation reliever that did not cause ulcers or
gastrointestinal bleeding, a side effect of many NSAIDs.
The jury is likely to begin deliberations in the case later today.
The seven men and five women on the panel must decide whether Merck's
warnings for Vioxx were adequate, whether there was a safer alternative
design for the drug that could have been used, and whether the company

Mo. Officials Probe Intestine Infections

FREDERICKTOWN, Mo. (AP) - Health officials in Madison County are
gathering recent medical histories, seeking to determine how microscopic
intestinal parasites spread from two human cases at the beginning of
last week to 30 confirmed over the weekend.
When the first two cases were reported last week, the Fredericktown
municipal pool was voluntarily closed as a precaution, as one of the
first two children with the reported infections had been swimming there.
Health officials said on Tuesday they do not know at this point how or
where the infections spread.
On Aug. 8, two family doctors reported separately that one child had an
infection called cryptosporidiosis and the other had giardiasis,
according to Teresa Clark. She is a registered nurse who works for the
Madison County Health Department in southeast Missouri.
Both infections are caused by parasites, which are passed through
contact with human feces. Symptoms include diarrhea, vomiting, headache,
low-grade fever, fatigue and loss of appetite.
But, Clark said, one child from the first two cases had been to the
municipal pool while the other had not.
She did not have a count on how many of the other people infected had
visited the pool, but said no one has been hospitalized from the
infections.
"We're not saying the child contracted it from the pool," she said.
"We're not saying the pool has it." But, she said, the pool has been
voluntarily closed for the rest of the summer season.
She encouraged good hygiene, like washing hands for 30 seconds with warm
water and anti-bacterial soap.
Meanwhile, other pools and water parks in the region have stepped up
efforts to protect swimmers' health.
At the Farmington Civic Center, the water park has had no ties to the
infections, but the pools, which often receive hundreds of visitors
daily, are taking safety precautions just the same.
"We just took a proactive stance," said Bill Towler, the center's
director of operations.
He said the pools had been "shocked," or subjected to unusually high
levels of chlorine when not occupied by swimmers. During normal swimming
hours, chlorine levels are returned to normal, he said. Towler said new
posters tell parents young children must wear swim diapers, remind
parents that diapers cannot be changed on the pool decks and encourage
hand washing.
"A lot of it is common sense," Towler said, "but not everybody exhibits
common sense."
