Sadly somewhere along the way Friday the 13th has become a bad luck day to some... My opinion on that, "You create your life" and if you think it's bad it most likely will be but for me it's my lucky day and I expect good things so should you!

The weekend zooming in on us with speed of a space craft, or so it seems to me. I'm ready for my day of rest, how about you? I may bore you to death asking that question but it is so very important and I'm hoping at some point it will be so engrained in you that you will have no choice but to take that day of rest helping your body make it possible for better health!!! Also, are you prepared for the colds and flu season? That doesn't mean getting a flu shot, which is a long shot at preventing anything but usually weakens the system in the short term... It means preparing your immune system to be strong and bounce off any germ, virus or fungi that comes into your path!

Daddy's View From Home

My wife, Mary, and I used to have mini debates over who would get to stay home when our first child, Vincent, was born. The obvious answer was whoever made less mo*ney would get to stay home. As it turned out, my wife not only made more mo*ney but also provided health insuranc*e for the family so it was really a no-brainer.

I quit my full-time job as a computer technician a few months before Vincent was born. The idea was that I would start a home bu*siness to try to help out financially once the baby arrived.

We started an Ebay bus*iness and actually did pretty well. I quickly became a Power Seller - a moniker reserved for high sales volume and consistency. There were two glaring problems, however. I had to work the bus*iness 8+ hours every day except Sunday, which I took off. We knew that this would not work once Mary went back to work. As all of you moms already know, its a full time job taking care of a newborn (and the rest of the house)! Besides, the fact still remained that we both wanted to be home with our child.

Well here it is over a year after I quit my job, Vin is just over 8 months old, and Mary is still working full time. On one hand I feel extremely blessed that I am able to stay home with him, however, I know how difficult it is for Mary to leave every morning knowing that she will see him just just a couple hours at the end of the day when she gets home. I call her several times a day while she is at work just to let her know how absurdly cute he is being or to share my stress because he is inconsolable for whatever reason. Of course it is not the same ? we both miss her.

Even though we are not in our ideal family situation right now, I have to say that I am quite excited because we have found a bus*iness that is the answer. I am able to work this bus*iness from anywhere on-line for just an hour or two a day. As I continue with it, I will be spending less than two hours every week .

Medication Possible Factor in 21 Deaths

PANAMA CITY, Panama (AP) - Panamanian authorities say they suspect a medicine taken to treat high blood pressure may be among the factors leading to the deaths of 21 people since July who have succumbed to a mysterious illness that triggers kidney failure.

The 21st victim died either late Sunday or early Monday morning, said Panamanian public health official Rosario Turner said Monday. She did not specify the exact hour of death, or the age or gender of the patient, but said officials would release more details later.

On Friday, Panama's health minister stopped sales of the medication, Lisinopril Normon, and began removing it from pharmacy shelves. About 9,000 Panamanians take the medicine.

Authorities said they did not believe the medication had been tampered with.

The drug's Spanish manufacturer, generic drug maker Normon SA, issued a statement denying that its medicine was the cause and adding that there have been no problems in other countries where it is sold.

The illness thus far mostly has affected people older than 60. Other symptoms of the illness include vomiting, diarrhea and fever.

Latest FDA Craziness!

An analysis by the Institute of Medicine found that the federal system for approving and regulating drugs has serious problems, and dramatic changes are required to fix them.

The report fixed the blame on the FDA, Congress, and the pharmaceutical industry, and called on all of them to share responsibility in implementing solutions.

Several of the suggested changes are ones that have been requested for many years by drug safety advocates.

Many of the recommendations would require Congressional approval to enact, including such changes as:

FDA commissioners would serve a single six-year term
Newly approved drugs would include black triangles on their labels, warning consumers their safety was still in question
New drugs would only be approved for five years, at which point the FDA would review their safety
A ban on advertising would be in effect while drugs remain on this probationary period

The panel also recommended that a substantial majority of FDA advisory panel members not have industry ties, and suggested that manufacturers should be required to produce the outcomes of all studies, not just those published in medical journals. Studies that show positive results for a drug are more likely to be published.

Climate Change May Hurt Asian Economies

SYDNEY, Australia (AP) - Hotter temperatures and higher sea levels could devastate Asian economies, displace millions of people and put millions more at risk from infectious disease, according to a climate change report released Monday.

Global temperatures will rise by up to 4 degrees by 2030, particularly in the arid regions of northern Pakistan, India and China, predicted the report, conducted by Australia's main research agency, the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization.

It said there is "little room for optimism" about the effects of climate change in the Asia-Pacific region unless governments take immediate action to curb carbon dioxide emissions.

Higher temperatures coupled with changing rainfall patterns, including more tropical cyclones, flooding and heavier monsoons, could put millions of people at a greater risk of malaria, dengue fever and other infectious diseases, the report warned.

It also predicted that millions of people living in low-lying coastal communities in Bangladesh, Vietnam, China and many Pacific islands could become displaced as sea levels rise by up to 20 inches over the next 65 years.

"Local and regional economies will be hit hard from chronic food and water insecurity and epidemic disease, as well as extreme weather events," said the report, which was commissioned by 12 environmental, church and nongovernment organizations.

The report's author, research scientist Ben Preston, said the region's poorest countries would bear the brunt of climate change.

"For many of these nations, they rely on agriculture not only for subsistence, but also it's a major component of their economies," he said. "So significant impact to agricultural productivity affects the ability of people not only to feed themselves, but also to make money."

Global warming could also alter or destroy the coastal ecosystems upon which millions of people depend for fishing or tourism-related income, Preston said.

He said many Asian countries have little or no information about the risks of climate change, and are totally unprepared to deal with its impact on their economies.

The report calls on the Australian government to help developing countries in the region invest in renewable energy sources and better prepare for large-scale natural disasters.

It also encourages Australia to review its immigration laws to take in people displaced by climate change.
