Aspartame, A Possible
Death Sentence!
ASPARTAME CASE HISTORY
Two years ago I began breaking out with hives, whelps
and Angioedema (itching relentlessly), memory loss, and ringing/buzzing
in the ears. I went to the doctor numerous times, but all he did was
attribute all my symptoms to food allergies, which I never had before,
by the way. I began eliminating certain foods and reducing my intake of
Diet Coke, but I never eliminated it completely. My symptoms subsided
with the elimination of some foods, but I would have "flare ups" every
now and again. I realize now that those "flare ups" occurred when I
would drink 2 or more Diet Cokes a day.
Earlier this year, I began having symptoms of rheumatoid arthritis. I
could barely walk and it was extremely painful to put my feet on the
floor. The doctors ran extensive tests on me and said my levels of
inflammation were extremely high. They diagnosed me with rheumatoid
arthritis. Since I am allergic to sulfa drugs, they wanted me to take a
low dose of a chemo drug to treat the symptoms. I refused to take the
drug and opted to treat the problem with a life style/diet change. I
stopped my intake of Diet Coke, I cut out anything white (rice,
potatoes, sugar, bread), and basically, I got back on a sugar-controlled
program - but without turning to the diet sweeteners as the solution.
Since eliminating the Diet Coke and adjusting my diet, I have not had
any issues with rheumatoid arthritis, hives, or ANY of my past health
symptoms. And, I lost weight, which I feel the Diet Cokes were a
contributor to my weight gain and inability to lose it.
Someone sent me an article on aspartame poisoning and I decided to
research this further, which is how I came upon your website. Since
reading about this issue, I am completely eliminating all aspartame and
other chemical sweeteners from my diet, and I intend to detox my body.
For several years, my mother has been trying to tell me how bad
aspartame is for your body. I wish I had listened to her sooner. After
my dead end with my doctors and the bad medical advice they were giving
me - chemo drugs??? - I now realize that good health is up to the
individual and not their doctor. And have you paid attention to the
side-effects of some of the drugs marketed for RA? One of the side
effects is cancer!
I am a believer in "healing thyself" and not making the doctors and
pharmaceutical companies any richer while they slowly kill me with all
their drugs. If people would make these healthier diet and lifestyle
changes, they would find themselves much healthier and a lot richer!
Thanks so much for your research and for getting the word out. I intend
to share this with everyone I know who drinks diet anything sweetened
with aspartame.
When I think back to growing up and what we DIDN'T have back then, like
the over abundance of fast food places, aspartame and soda machines
everywhere, we ate from homegrown gardens, fresh meats, and were all
much healthier and skinnier. My parents and grandparents did not nearly
have the health issues that we do today. I attribute our rampant
obesity, epidemic illnesses, etc. to the fast and convenient lifestyle.
I have healed a diagnosed disease condition that almost put me on chemo
drugs that actually cause cancer. All this time, unknown to my doctors
who should have known better, I had aspartame poisoning.
Dr. Hull writes:
This is a very dramatic and important case history. It describes an
indisputable reaction to aspartame and a perfect example of how the
medical community is grossly falling behind the times, specifically
concerning the dangerous health effects of aspartame.
Aspartame is a known toxin, and the medical field, above all
organizations, should be interested in how/why aspartame creates
explicit health reactions that damage human health. Sadly, it's the
politics of greed in cases like this - it is too easy to get patients
hooked on expensive drugs for their lifetime as an easy solution to
their health dilemma. It's a win-win situation for the doctor who has
too little time to spend with each patient, and it's a lifetime of
annuities for the pharmaceutical stockholders who cash out on the
filling of yet another long-term prescription. I never used to be so
jaded, but as I read hundreds of emails every day like this one, I
continuously lose faith in the apathy and ignorance saturating the
medical community concerning aspartame and it's proven health dangers.
With the human carnage this known toxin is leaving behind, emails like
this one are all too common.
As a responsible consumer, it is not uncommon to take your future health
and wellness into your own hands and leave the medications in the ER and
critical care units. Modern medicine does not prevent disease nor offer
cures anymore. American medicine has fallen as far behind the times as
our public education system has. If our leaders, like the medical
practitioners and legislators, don't do something about aspartame,
modern societies will have a very bleak road ahead.
Author: Dr. Janet Starr Hull has a very diverse background with academic
degrees and experience in geology, international geography,
environmental science, fitness training and nutrition. She is an OSHA
Certified Environmental Hazardous Waste Emergency Response Specialist
and Toxicologist, a former firefighter and college professor. In 1991,
Dr. Hull had an unexpected change in career after she was diagnosed with
"incurable" Grave's Disease. Through diligent research and her
thorough understanding of toxicity, she later discovered her "Grave's
Disease" was actually aspartame poisoning. She has since worked to
inform consumers about the health dangers of artificial sweeteners. Dr.
Hull's experiences have provided pieces to a life-long puzzle - the
damaging effects of artificial sweeteners. She combined her various
skills to form a unique application to natural medicine. Her work is
based upon the interrelationships of all sciences as she personally
discovered "what works in nature, can surely
work in man."

CDC: New Respiratory Bug
Has Killed 10
Nov 16, 2007
By MIKE STOBBE
ATLANTA (AP) - A mutated version of a common cold virus has caused 10 deaths in
the last 18 months, U.S. health officials said Thursday. Adenoviruses usually
cause respiratory infections that aren't considered lethal. But a new variant
has caused at least 140 illnesses in New York, Oregon, Washington and Texas,
according to a report issued Thursday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control
and Prevention.
CDC officials don't consider the mutation to be a cause for alarm for most
people, and they're not recommending any new precautions for the general public.
"It's an uncommon infection," said Dr. Larry Anderson, a CDC epidemiologist.
The illness made headlines in Texas earlier this year, when a so-called boot
camp flu sickened hundreds at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio. The most
serious cases were blamed on the emerging virus and one 19-year-old trainee
died.
"What really got people's attention is these are healthy young adults landing in
the hospital and, in some cases, the ICU," said Dr. John Su, an infectious
diseases investigator with the CDC.
There are more than 50 distinct types of adenoviruses tied to human illnesses.
They are one cause of the common cold, and also trigger pneumonia and
bronchitis. Severe illnesses are more likely in people with weaker immune
systems.
Some adenoviruses have also been blamed for gastroenteritis, conjunctivitis and
cystitis.
There are no good antiviral medications for adenoviruses. Patients usually are
treated with aspirin, liquids and bed rest.
Some people who get infected by the new bug probably would not suffer symptoms,
and some may just feel a common cold. Sick people should see a doctor if they
suffer a high fever or have trouble breathing, Anderson said.
In the CDC report, the earliest case of the mutated virus was found in an infant
girl in New York City, who died last year. The child seemed healthy right after
birth, but then became dehydrated and lost appetite. She died 12 days after she
was born.
Tests found that she been infected with a form of adenovirus, called Ad14, but
with some little differences, Su said.
It's not clear how the changes made it more lethal, said Linda Gooding, an Emory
University researcher who specializes in adenoviruses.
Earlier this year, hundreds of trainees at Lackland became ill with respiratory
infections. Tests showed a variety of adenoviruses in the trainees, but at least
106 - and probably more - had the mutated form of Ad14, including five who ended
up in an intensive care unit
In April, Oregon health officials learned of a cluster of cases at a
Portland-area hospital. They ultimately counted 31 cases, including seven who
died with severe pneumonia. The next month, Washington state officials reported
four hospitalized patients had the same mutated virus. One, who also had AIDS,
died.
The Ad14 form of adenovirus was first identified in 1955. In 1969, it was blamed
for a rash of illnesses in military recruits stationed in Europe, but it's been
detected rarely since then. But it seems to growing more common.
The strain accounted for 6 percent of adenovirus samples collected in 22 medical
facilities in 2006, while none was seen the previous two years, according to a
study published this month in the medical journal Clinical Infectious Diseases.
The new bug could have implications for the military. Other forms of
adenoviruses have been a common cause of illness in recruits. Military officials
are bringing back an adenovirus vaccine - administered as a pill - that was
given to recruits from 1971 to 1999, CDC officials said.
A Barr Pharmaceuticals vaccine for the military, currently being tested, is
expected to be licensed in 2009. Like the old pill, it focuses on adenovirus
serotypes 4 and 7, because those bugs have been persistent problems, said Col.
Art Brown, an Army physician involved in the product's development.
Some CDC officials said a vaccination against the mutant Ad14 might be needed.
Brown said it isn't clear if the mutant Ad14 will be an enduring threat, but the
military will monitor illness reports.
"If it persists, then we'd consider if the vaccine needs to be modified
further," said Brown, of the U.S. Army Medical Materiel Development Activity.

FOOD OF THE WEEK
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^
The saying "An
apple a day will keep the doctor away." Is not an old wives tale as some
would have you believe!
When we lived in Southern California every October or
November we made a trek up to Oak Glen, spending the day either eat out
or pack a picnic, for some apples and simply to enjoy the fall colors
and mountain air. Nothing apples picked fresh from the tree!
Why?
Apples are known to help keep the immune system healthy. Apples are a
marvelous anti-aging food. They stabilize blood sugar, lower blood
pressure, control the appetite and keep the cardiovascular system
healthy. All contribute to a healthy body!

Researchers have found that those who eat more apples tend to have a
lower incidence of colds and upper respiratory ailments. In 2003 it was
reported by one study group that those who ate apples could probably
avoid asthma.
There are numerous types of apples but they vary little in the nutrient
content, so eat whichever type you prefer and expect basically the same
results!
* Apples have no fat, cholesterol or sodium, and a medium-size apple
contains only 80 calories.
* A medium-size apple provides five grams of dietary fiber - 20 percent
of the recommended daily intake. This is more than oatmeal or most
breakfast cereal, which can lower cholesterol as well as keep your
intestines healthy and moving as they should!
* Apple sauce, apple juice and apple cider are a tasty way to get your
minimum five servings of fruits and vegetables per day for optimum
health. Six ounces of apple juice or apple cider or one-half cup (4
ounces) of apple sauce count as one daily fruit serving.
* Apples contain pectin, a water-soluble fiber found to reduce levels of
cholesterol by removing it from the blood stream.
* Apples are a good source of potassium, which may help to maintain
healthy blood pressure.
* Apples contain complex carbohydrates that give you energy faster than
eating something high in sugar.
* Apples contain boron, an essential trace element that helps to harden
bones, which may reduce the onset of osteoporosis.
* Apples have been shown to be better than coffee or caffeine to give
you that morning boost of energy!
Be sure to eat the skin (wash it first) because it contains pectin
fiber, a soluble type of fiber, which is a well known anti-cholesterol
agent.
Around our house we prefer apples raw or baked whole as dessert.
To bake:
Core the apple and trim the bottom of the apple.
Place it in an oven safe dish.
Fill the apple core hole with butter and brown sugar, cover dish with
foil and bake in a preheated 350F degree oven for about 40 to 55
minutes. If you have more than two apples extend baking time by 5
minutes per apple.
Or place butter and brown sugar filled apples in a microwave safe dish
and microwave on baked potato setting.
Got gall bladder or kidney stones? Try this to relieve pain and
dissolve stones;
1 Organic apple (any type) and 6 Organic beets juiced
together and drink an 8 oz. glass every hour until juice gone. For the
majority this will work wonders to relieve the pain within the hour? If
you have large stones you might want to juice many more beets and apples
(ratio of 6 beets to 1 apple) and drink a glass three times a day for 5
to 7 days... It really works!
To prevent those stones from re-occurring balanced minerals in the body and
the only way to do that is to supplement an 84 mineral and trace mineral
complex?
Enjoy your healthy fruit!

Is Your
Medication Making You Fat? Most likely, according to the
following article!
Can Medicine Make You Fat?
WebMD Feature from "Health"
By Jennifer Acosta Scott
In a word, yes. Here's what to do when the drugs you need also
put on the pounds.
When you start putting on weight, you look to the usual
suspects: the dusty treadmill or that stash of chocolate in your
desk drawer.
But for 30-year-old Chelley Thelen, the culprit sat in her
medicine cabinet. In six years, Thelen gained 60 pounds from
taking prednisone, a steroid used to treat her arthritis.
Thelen is just one of a growing number of women who can blame
their excess pounds on the drugs they're taking for everything
from allergies to migraines. The chances of finding yourself on
a drug that can lead to weight gain have more than doubled in
the last 20 years.
In fact, the number has increased from one in ten to one in
four, says George Blackburn, MD, associate director of the
Harvard Medical School Division of Nutrition. The problem is so
critical that Blackburn teaches a course for physicians on the
weight-gain side effects of medications.
?The drugs we're most concerned about are drugs for chronic
diseases, like diabetes and psychiatric problems, because you
have to be medicated for life,? Blackburn says. But even
innocuous-sounding meds like over-the-counter sleep aids can
cause snug-jeans syndrome-some by slowing your metabolism,
others by altering the hormones in your body that control your
appetite.
And the problem isn't just affecting women's waistlines: Some
are even choosing not to take drugs critical to their health for
weight-control reasons. If you suspect that meds are making you
gain weight, check our list below for the most common culprits
and expert advice on what to do about it.
Drugs that can pile on pounds
Antihistamines
The fat effect: Allergy drugs containing diphenhydramine (such
as Benadryl) have a sedating effect that saps your energy if you
take them regularly. You're not as active, so you're burning
fewer calories, Blackburn says.
Antidepressants
The fat effect: Some antidepressants affect neurotransmitters in
your brain that control appetite and mood, both of which can
make you eat more.
What to do: See a psychiatrist instead of a family physician or
internist and ask about antidepressants that don't typically
cause weight gain, such as Wellbutrin or Zyban.
Birth control pills
The fat effect: Birth control pills may add up to five pounds
because the estrogen in them can cause you to retain water.
Sleep aids
The fat effect: You'll find the same culprit, diphenhydramine,
in over-the-counter sleep aids, such as Tylenol Simply Sleep,
Sominex, or Nytol, or "nighttime" versions of cold and pain
medicines, like Sudafed PE Nighttime Cold or Excedrin PM.
Migraine meds
The fat effect: Depakote and Depakene, medicines which are
sometimes used to prevent recurring migraines, can make you want
to eat more, says Harminder Sikand, clinical director of
pharmacy at Scripps Mercy Hospital in San Diego.
Steroids
The fat effect: Prednisone, often used to treat rheumatoid
arthritis and chronic inflammation, can make you feel ravenously
hungry.
LENA'S COMMENT: Every
one of the drugs above depletes the body of many nutrients and
the most important ones are minerals as the body cannot
manufacture minerals and they are no longer in our foods in the
amount necessary to keep us healthy but if you are taking drugs
that deplete them as well you are at risk for more than obesity
and fat!

Official:
Plague Likely Killed Biologist
Nov 9, 2007
By BOB CHRISTIE
PHOENIX (AP) - A wildlife biologist at Grand Canyon National
Park likely died from the plague through his exposure to wild
animals that can carry the disease, the National Park Service
said Friday.
Eric York, 37, was found dead in his home Nov. 2. Following his
death, about 30 people who came in contact with him were given
antibiotics as a precaution.
While authorities were uncertain about how York became infected,
officials said that the biologist was at a greater risk to the
sometimes-fatal disease through his exposure to wild rodents and
mountain lions.
Park Service officials initially said they suspected the plague
or hantavirus, another sometimes-fatal disease endemic to the
Southwest, because of York's interests and hobbies.
Health officials in Arizona warned in September that the plague
appeared to be on the rise and that more cases were likely after
an Apache County woman was infected with the disease.
While Arizona health officials say the disease appears to be on
the rise in the state, CDC spokeswoman Lola Russell said plague
cases weren't on the rise nationally.
Plague is transmitted primarily by fleas and direct contact with
infected animals. When the disease causes pneumonia, it can be
transmitted from an infected person to a non-infected person by
airborne cough droplets.
Cases are treatable with antibiotics, but the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention reports that up to 50 percent are
fatal if the disease causes pneumonia. The Coconino County
Medical Examiner has said York's lungs were filled with fluid
and his body showed signs of pneumonia.
