Greetings and thank your for subscribing!
As the week from another planet comes to a close I can only say
TGIF. As a rule that isn't my thoughts but I need a rest! Only two more
weeks then I can relax a bit, I hope. So thankful for Wayne Garland's
Master Formula Tolerance!!! With our intermittent snow, rain and
sunshine it does feel like the holidays are here and for that I am
thankful. Living in Southern California for so many years Christmas just
didn't seem like Christmas without some snow and cold to give it that
holiday flare, so I am enjoying that part of the week... Always find a

Something To Think About
============================
Christian Science Monitor (CSM) 2000, revealed that a Drug
Enforcement Administration study found that as many as one-half of the
teens in drug-treatment centers said they had used Ritalin to get high.
And because Ritalin taken orally doesn't provide instant stimulation,
many of these young people are crushing their Ritalin pills and inhaling
the powder - just like cocaine.
* More than 15 percent of children who used Ritalin said that
schoolmates had asked to purchase doses of their drug
* Four percent of the kids who used Ritalin reported that their doses
had been stolen at least once
The DEA now lists Ritalin as one of the top ten most stolen
prescription drugs.
Studies show that Ritalin users go on to have higher rates of alcohol
abuse, drug abuse and criminal activity compared to kids who don't use
the drug. Whether that's because that child was given signals that
he/she was different and that stigma was responsible for trying to
escape, is still to be decided. So what are you quietly telling your
Ritalin child?

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY!

Falsehood and lies being used to prevent a world's
healthy future?
A favorite story being circulated is one in which the Peruvian
government hears that chlorine is dangerous. The Peruvians act on this
knowledge and they take "precautionary action" stopping chlorination of
their water supply causing several thousand deaths from cholera.
First off that story is a total falsehood and never happened!!! The
chemical industry is mounting a major campaign against the precautionary
principle. They have hired two attack-dog public relations firms,
Nichols-Dezenhall, and Wirthlin WorldWide, to discredit precaution in
the minds of the public. They started laying the ground work for this
campaign four years ago, and now they are ramping up their big attack.
You may hear it from your college professor, as they are notorious for
not checking accuracy of stories fed them by big business? Watch and
listen to the news for small nuances of information regarding chemicals
being okay or falsehoods such as the above story!
Be diligent and speak out against lies and distortions whenever the
opportunity arises. We are being over run by big money and big business
that aren't looking out for a healthy future of our world!

In 1997 the FDA approved Prozac to treat depression.
In 1985 the manufacturer, Eli Lilly, conducted tests on
Prozac and found the drug was no more effective than a
placebo for treating depression. As a remedy for these
insignificant figures,
a FDA statistician suggested to Lilly that the test results
be evaluated differently in order for them to be more
favorable for Prozac. Lilly's own tests showed 191
negative side effects per 100 people. Two months before
the FDA approved Prozac there had already been 27 deaths
from controlled clinical trials.
By 1992 Prozac had 28,600 adverse reactions reported to the

Sleep Deprived Baby? Try Sunlight
For many parents, getting their baby to sleep at night can become a
daunting task. Often times it seems that nothing will help; however,
researchers may have discovered a natural remedy: Sunlight.
According to a study, babies exposed to twice as much light during the
day (between noon and 4 pm) became better sleepers at night.
The study consisted of 55 babies who were monitored for three successive
days at the age intervals of:
Six weeks old
Nine weeks old
12 weeks old
Throughout the study, a light monitor was attached to each of the
babies' cribs. Parents were advised to go about their usual routines, as
well as keep a diary of their baby's sleep and crying patterns.
One theory explained the connection between light exposure and sleeping
by stating that higher light levels encourage early development of the
biological clock. This natural body clock regulates a wide range of
bodily functions, such as the secretion of melatonin. Melatonin not only
promotes sleep, but also plays an important role in well-balanced
sleeping patterns.
Based on their findings, researchers concluded that healthy doses of
daylight encourage babies to sleep at night. Thus, parents are advised
to take their babies out in sunlight.
BBC News November 22, 2004
LENA'S COMMENT: When I was raising my children a few women
followed their mother's custom of putting babies in their stroller/pram
and setting them out in the sunlight each morning and afternoon for 15
minutes or so and there were far less sleepless babies than has since
existed. Guess I now know why!

Stringy Green Medicine! Not Green Beans!
As I cut pieces into my soup pot I started
wondering exactly what this green stringy veggie did for me. What I
learned was interesting as well as alarming...
It was first used as a Medicine and I found out
that there is more than kinds than just the green stalks we find in the grocery
store here.
Celery (Apium graveolens) grows to a height of 12
to 16 inches and is composed of leaf-topped stalks arranged in a conical
shape that are joined at a common bottom base. It is a biennial
vegetable plant that belongs to the Umbelliferae family whose other
members include carrots, fennel, parsley and dill. While most people
associate celery with its prized stalks, the leaves, roots and seeds can
also be used as a food and seasoning as well as a natural medicinal
remedy.
Celery is believed to be the same plant as selinon,
mentioned in Homer's Odyssey about 850 B.C. Our word "celery" comes from
the French celeri, which is derived from the ancient Greek word. The old
Roman names, as well as those in many modern languages, are derived from
the same root word and sound remarkably similar. This indicates a rather
recent wide distribution and use of celery.
The oldest record of the word celeri is in a
9th-century poem written in France or Italy, giving the medicinal uses
and merits of the plant. When its culture in gardens was begun in the
16th century in Italy and northern Europe, it was still a primitive
plant like smallage (common name for celery), and was used for medicinal purposes only.
In France in 1623 use of celery as food was first
recorded. For about a hundred years thereafter its food use was confined
to flavorings or medicinal. In France and Italy, by the middle of the
17th century, the little stalks and leaves were sometimes eaten with an
oil dressing.
In the late 17th and early 18th centuries, in
Italy, France, and England, was seen the first evidences of improvement
of the wild type. Gardeners also found that much of the too-strong
flavor could be eliminated, making the stalks better for salad use, by
growing the plants in late summer and fall, then keeping them into the
winter.
By the mid-18th century in Sweden, the wealthier
families were enjoying the wintertime luxury of celery that had been
stored in cellars. From that time on, its use as we know it today spread
rapidly. Its seed was brought to Kalamazoo, Michigan, in the 1850s from
Scotland, and it became a commercial crop there, grown by Dutch
settlers.
All through the 19th century in America, England,
and much of Europe, it was believed necessary to blanch the green edible
portion of celery to rid it of unpleasantly strong flavor and green
color. This was done by banking the plants with soil. Some kinds, like
Pascal and Utah, that remain green when ready for eating, are now
considered to be of the finest quality.
Many so-called "easy-blanching" or "self-blanching"
varieties have appeared in the past 50 years. Generally, these
self-blanching sorts are inferior in quality to the best green
varieties, but can be grown successfully under less favorable conditions
of soil and climate.
Celeriac, or turnip-rooted celery, is a kind that
forms a greatly enlarged, solid, more or less globular body just below
the soil surface. It is not used raw, but is especially suited for use
in soups and stews.
Today research has proven celery seed to be a
diuretic. Diuretic substances are used to treat high blood pressure and
congestive heart failure. Research has also shown that celery seed helps
decrease blood sugar levels and might be useful in treating diabetes.
Modern herbalists believe celery seed aids digestion, increases appetite
and may also alleviate the discomforts of rheumatism.
Celery and celery seed have long been thought to be
a fairly good aphrodisiac. Research has shown that celery contains
androsterone so there may be something to that belief.
Celery can be a great diet aid as digesting celery
requires more energy than celery and only 17 calories in a 100 gram
portion.
Healthy minerals and vitamins found in celery are;
Calcium, Iron, Magnesium, Phosphorus, Potassium,Sodium, Zinc, Copper,
Manganese, Selenium, Vitamins C, A, B-6, E, B-12, ascorbic acid,
Thiamin, Riboflavin, Niacin, Folate, Retinol and Pantothenic acid.
Making healthy, if you get organic uncooked. Some elements are lost in
cooking. Light green celery stalks with a glossy surface tend to taste
best. (Dark green stalks have slightly more nutrients, but are apt to be
stringy.)
Sadly on 94 percent of the non-organic celery
tested were found to contain Chemicals and Pesticides; three most
commonly found were Dicloran, Acephate, and Oxamyl and also one or more
of the following; Acephate, Azinphos methyl, Captan, Carbaryl,
Chlorothalonil, DCPA, DDT, Diazinon, Dicloran, Dimethoate, Disulfoton,
Endosulfans, Iprodione, Linuron, Malathion, Methamidophos, Methidathion,
Methomyl, Mevinphos Total, Oxamyl, Oxydemeton methyl, Parathion ethyl,
Permethrin Total, Phosmet, Piperonyl butoxide, Prometryn, Propiconazole,
Quintozene (PCNB), and Trifluralin.
My favorite way of eating celery is stuffed with
peanut butter or cream cheese. Makes a healthy filling snack or side
dish.
Enjoy your green string of health but make sure
it's organic to prevent pesticide and chemical toxic buildup in your
body.

New York's HIV experiment
By Jamie Doran
Reporter/producer, Guinea Pig Kids
HIV positive children and their loved ones have few rights if
they choose to battle with social work authorities in New York
City.
Jacklyn Hoerger worked at the Incarnation Children's Center
Jacklyn Hoerger's job was to treat children with HIV at a New
York children's home.
But nobody had told her that the drugs she was administering
were experimental and highly toxic.
"We were told that if they were vomiting, if they lost their
ability to walk, if they were having diarrhoea, if they were
dying, then all of this was because of their HIV infection."
In fact it was the drugs that were making the children ill and
the children had been enrolled on the secret trials without
their relatives' or guardians' knowledge.
As Jacklyn would later discover, those who tried to take the
children off the drugs risked losing them into care.
The BBC asked the Alliance for Human Research Protection about
their view on the drug trials.
Spokesperson Vera Sherav said: "They tested these highly
experimental drugs. Why didn't they provide the children with
the current best treatment? That's the question we have.
"Why did they expose them to risk and pain, when they were
helpless?
"Would they have done those experiments with their own children?
I doubt it."
Power and authority
When I first heard the story of the "guinea pig kids", I
instinctively refused to believe that it could be happening in
any civilised country, particularly the United States, where the
propensity for legal action normally ensures a high level of
protection.
But that, as I was to discover, was central to the choice of
location and subjects, because to be free in New York City, you
need money.
I've had many ACS case workers tell me: 'We're ACS, we can do
whatever we want' David Lansner, family lawyer
Over 23,000 of the city's children are either in foster care or
independent homes run mostly by religious organisations on
behalf of the local authorities and almost 99% are black or
hispanic.
Some of these kids come from "crack" mothers and have been
infected with the HIV virus. For over a decade, this became the
target group for experimentation involving cocktails of toxic
drugs.
Central to this story is the city's child welfare department,
the Administration for Children's Services (ACS).
The ACS, as it is known, was granted far-reaching powers in the
1990s by then-Republican Mayor Rudi Giuliani, after a
particularly horrific child killing.
Within the shortest of periods, literally thousands of children
were being rounded up and placed in foster care.
"They're essentially out of control," said family lawyer David
Lansner. "I've had many ACS case workers tell me: 'We're ACS, we
can do whatever we want' and they usually get away with it."
Having taken children into care, the ACS was now, effectively,
their parent and could do just about anything it wished with
them.
'Serious side-effects'
One of the homes to which HIV positive children were taken was
the Incarnation Children's Center, a large, expensively
refurbished red-bricked building set back from the sidewalk in a
busy Harlem street.
It is owned by the Catholic church and when we attempted to talk
to officials at Incarnation we were referred to an equally
expensive Manhattan public relations company, which then refused
to comment on activities within the home.
Dr Rasnick is internationally renowned for his work on numerous
diseases, including cancer
Hardly surprising, when we already knew that highly
controversial and secretive drug experiments had been conducted
on orphans and foster children as young as three months old.
We asked Dr David Rasnick, visiting scholar at the University of
Berkeley, for his opinion on some of the experiments.
He said: "We're talking about serious, serious side-effects.
These children are going to be absolutely miserable. They're
going to have cramps, diarrhoea and their joints are going to
swell up. They're going to roll around the ground and you can't
touch them."
He went on to describe some of the drugs - supplied by major
drug manufacturers including Glaxo SmithKline - as "lethal".
When approached by the BBC, Glaxo SmithKline said such trials
must have stringent standards and be conducted strictly in
accordance with local regulations.
Battle of wills
At Incarnation, if a child refused to take the medicines
offered, he or she was force-fed through a peg-tube inserted
into the stomach.
Critics of the trials say children should have been volunteered
to test drugs by their parents.
When Jacklyn Hoerger later fostered two children from the home
where she used to work with a view to adopting them, she
discovered just how powerful the ACS was.
"It was a Saturday morning and they had come a few times
unannounced," she said. "So when I opened the door I invited
them in and they said that this wasn't a happy visit. At that
point they told me that they were taking the children away. I
was in shock."
Jacklyn, a trained paediatric nurse, had taken the fatal step of
taking the children off the drugs, which had resulted in an
immediate boost to their health and happiness.
As a result she was branded a child abuser in court. She has not
been allowed to see the children since.
In the film Guinea Pig Kids, we follow Jacklyn's story and that
of other parents or guardians who fear for the lives of their
loved ones.
We talk to a child who spent years on drugs programmes which
made them and their friends ill, and we discover that
Incarnation is not an isolated case. The experiments continue to
be carried out on the poor children of New York City.
Guinea Pig Kids was broadcast on Tuesday, 30 November, 2004, at
1930 GMT on BBC Two (UK).

ENVIRONMENTAL REPORT
~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~^~~^~^~^
US Workers' Group Says EPA Censors Comments
December 8, 2004
DENVER - The US Environmental Protection Agency censored warnings that a
Bush administration plan to build roads in national forests could harm
drinking water, a group representing government workers said on Monday.
The Bush administration wants to replace a Clinton era rule that put
nearly 58.5 million acres (23.7 million hectares) of national forest
land off limits to road building.
New roads would allow heavy machinery access to back country areas and
make commercial logging feasible.
Prohibiting roads on about 30 percent of federal forests would protect
habitat and wildlife and save taxpayers money, proponents of the
roadless rule say.
"No public expression of dissent is allowed in the federal government
now," Jeff Ruch, executive director of Public Employees for
Environmental Responsibility known as PEER, said.
The problem arose after the US Forest Service, an agency of the US
Department of Agriculture, asked for comments on building roads in
pristine national forests.
An EPA staffer wrote that building roads through swaths of land
previously untouched would deteriorate the qualify of water in streams
and have an impact on public drinking water.
Ruch said that EPA employees related that Steven Shimborg, a political
appointee at the EPA, dismissed the staff draft as a "rant" and ordered
the objections stricken from the EPA comments.
"I think that PEER is off the mark on this one," Cynthia Bergman, press
secretary at the EPA said.
Bergman said she did not know if Shimborg had used the word rant. "His
concerns were that the final report focus on EPA's area of expertise and
not where we don't have jurisdiction," Bergman said.
The EPA comments also recommended that the Forest Service address its
concerns about water quality. "And we volunteered to assist in this
service," Bergman said.
The Clinton rule spawned a number of lawsuits from logging companies and
several western states which were affected by the roadless rules.
According to Defenders of Wildlife, the Forest Service has built more
than 360,000 miles (579,350 km) of roads in national forests -- or eight
times the length of the US interstate highway system.
Under the new proposal, governors could still maintain roadless rules in
their states if they petitioned the federal government, but
environmentalists say that states such as Colorado and Idaho would
probably not ask to be exempted.
