As you read this I'm off to Phoenix
Airport to pick up the first grandchild
of the season, for his summer visit. Tiz
the season when I juggle grandchildren
and business and not always well, but
grandchildren, will not always be young
and here and my business does well
enough that it will be around for the
long haul, so guess who gets the back
seat? Example; this year I will only
have five of the nine grandchildren as
the others have jobs and college now so
there isn't time left for grandparents
and I understand that, so I make the
most of what time I have with each of
them until their grownup time comes.

For Aging Eyes
Supplements May Prevent Age-Related
Vision Loss
One of the most widespread
effects of aging is weakening
eyesight. Prevention Is

In the United States alone, the most
common cause for decreased eyesight and
blindness in people over 55 years-old is
age-related macular degeneration (AMD),
a disease that affects a specific part
of the retina.
A new study in the Archives of
Ophthalmology reports that the use of
antioxidants together with zinc may
reduce the risk of developing AMD and,
therefore, loss of vision.
As part of the Age-Related Eye Disease
Study, 3,640 participants between the
ages of 55 and 80 were followed over a
six-year period. Each person had some
degree of retinal changes, ranging from
mild to severe.
They were divided into four groups to
receive daily intakes of either...
(1)antioxidants... including 500 mg of
vitamin C, 400 IU of vitamin E, and 15
mg of beta-carotene;
(2) 80 mg of zinc and 2 mg of copper;
(3) antioxidants plus zinc (no copper);
or
(4) no supplements at all.
The researchers found that taking
antioxidants reduced the risk of
developing AMD by 17%, and zinc lowered
the risk by 21%. An even more profound
decline in risk was found when
antioxidants and zinc were taken
together, reducing the risk 25%.
Better Yet...
A study from Harvard University found
that people whose diets were high in
Lutein and Zeaxanthin had a 57% decrease
in the risk of developing AMD, compared
with those who ate little of these
substances.
Diets high in Lutein may also protect
against the formation of cataracts. It
appears that either eating diet rich in
dark green, leafy vegetables and/or
supplementing with antioxidants helps
slow the progression of serious eye
disease, as well as other health
challengers.
These facts have been practiced by many
over the last dozen years and with great
results.

What Not to Do Every
Day

With time flying by faster and faster
every day, you already know it's
important to decide what you're going to
do each day. However, it's equally
important to know what not to do. Add
some Don'ts to your day, and see how it
helps with all those Do's.
Don't over schedule your day.
It seems like scheduling every minute
would be the logical way to get
everything done, but it actually tends
to work against you. Some things will
take longer than you expected, some
things will interfere that you can't
predict. If you're scheduled to the
max, you'll have no room to absorb them,
things will overrun, and frustration
will set in. Instead, plan in the free
time. Aim for about 75% scheduled, 25%
free.
Don't say Yes to everything.
Saying Yes to everything is like
cholesterol - it clogs your day
with stuff you don't want there. Doing
other people's work,
answering annoying phone calls, deleting
junk emails. If you
want to read a book, say No to TV and
the internet. If you want to start a
home business, say No to things that
waste your time. If you want to lose
weight say No to Frito-Lay and Sara Lee.
Simple as that (I didn't say easy, I
said simple.)
Don't put what you want at the moment
over what you want in the long run. That
extra 20 minutes of sleep in the morning
might seem like the best thing since
sliced peanut butter, but you know it
will only make you late, and then
playing catch up the rest of the day.
That new pair of shoes may seem like the
last pair you'll ever need, but if it
makes the rent money tight, it's not
worth it. Think about the long term
effects of your actions today.
Don't get duped with "I can have
it all" ideas.
Having it all is possible, either by
having it at different times
in your life, or by having a whole lot
of help (think Kelly Ripa
or Katie Couric). Their few spare
minutes are certainly not
spent grocery shopping or cleaning
toilets. So please, lose the
Super-Woman idea attached to it.
Don't get trapped in microwave
mentality.
Things take time. Appreciate the
various stages of projects and goals as
well as the outcome. Ever notice a rose
in bud form? It's beauty is special - no
need to wait until the rose is opened to
enjoy it. A child is not just something
to be steered into adulthood before s/he
can be appreciated. Neither are your
goals of home projects, or getting a
degree, or even getting your scheduled
organized. Learn from the mistakes,
learn to enjoy the lessons, and make
each day as special as the end result.
Don't give up.
Never give up. When you mess up, or
when the winds of life come barreling in
unannounced - and it will - being
prepared as best you can will give you
the strength to be able to move on. If
you lose your job suddenly, having a
reserve of money will ease the
transition into a new job and give you
the power to wait to find the right
one. When it seems like there's no
answer, push on. The answer may be just
around the next corner. Don't let fear,
or anger, or frustration, or your money,
or your in-laws, stop you from living
your life. Keep going. It's your turn
next.

Happy Anniversary
The one year anniversary of the start of
your web business
rolled around, and you had 8,126 hits to
your web site by 3,712 people for the
calendar year. That averages out to
about 10 visitors a day. In analyzing
these figures, it shows that some of
those people were intrigued enough to
visit other pages on your site during
their visit. Like a robust meal, some
came back for seconds and maybe even
thirds.
Statistics show, that only a small
percentage of the people
visiting a web site actually buy
something. Now if you're
selling a "high ticket" item that
resulted in thousands of
dollars worth of sales, that may be
perfectly acceptable.
A "low ticket" item, on the other hand,
may have only netted
a small amount, and made a small profit
or barely recovered
the costs.
The web site selling the "high ticket"
item must balance their
production capabilities with the demand.
Maybe they can't
handle any more customers. The person
selling the "low ticket"
items has their work cut out for them.
So let's concentrate on what the "low
ticket" person has to do.
The pundits say that you must sell
yourself first, and the
product or service will be an easy sale.
Well this is true to a
certain extent. You must however have
something that is
saleable, at a competitive price.
Let's talk about price. Yesterday I was
browsing through an
online Garden Supply Store - yes it is
getting to be that time of
year. Common items were typically priced
at almost double what I could get them
for in our local store. While I got some
good ideas, that vendor lost a sale.
Prices must be competitive - and if you
add shipping and handling, the
differential is even
higher. So, the concept of selling
locally available items at a
higher cost just doesn't make sense. The
online entrepreneur is
going to have a very difficult time
competing with the chain
stores.
So does that mean that there is no
market for an online
entrepreneur? No! There must however be
a product line that is not normally
available in local outlets - in other
words a niche market.
Services are usually strong - especially
online services. Find a
niche here and you will usually succeed.
But what kind of
services sell? There are many kinds, but
they usually don't take
the form of affiliate programs that
thousands of others are
trying to sell. But, you might argue,
affiliate programs are a
great deal. With very little investment,
you can be up and
running in a very short time.
But why should someone buy from you,
something that is being hawked all over
the web? This is where the advice of the
pundits does come into action. You must
sell yourself first, and do something
that sets you apart from the others who
have exactly the same product or
service.
Your own web site is a great start. You
can have your picture
there, a short bio and your list of
reasons for joining the
program. If you can sell yourself, the
affiliate sale is a lot
easier.
But to do this, you must be able to
entice your visitors back.
If you can get them there enough times,
the odds of you making a sale greatly
increase.
There are a number of ways to get them
to return. Content that
is continually updated is a great start.
If you have
information of interest to them, they
will come back. A guest
book where you can capture their email
address is a real plus.
You can then notify them when the
content has changed, and you are
building a valuable mailing list.
Running a contest is also a good draw.
If you can get your visitors back for
seconds, or even thirds,
you have a much better chance of selling
your product or
services. If you do, it could very well
be a "Happy Anniversary."
