My husband took me to this new restaurant in town called PotBellies, a BBQ place, and there wasn't one thing there that was ordinary or you will find in another restaurant... What I found really unique was the appetizer, not chips and salsa or ordinary appetizer, but popcorn with all sorts of packets of flavors to put on it. The beans served (all BBQ rest. serve them with their BBQ) with the meal was a mixture of black and red, another difference among many. Anyway I can see where they are building a niche and if it catches on will be the unique place to go... The building is painted in a very unique manner attracting attention. They have the idea for business online and we shall see if it works well offline in our little country town...

Do what you must to be successful as long as it's honest, something you enjoy and doesn't hurt anyone.

Create Your Vision of Success

Most marketing strategies are about being in motion. Have a plan, be proactive, and take the necessary action steps. Although being proactive is a necessary aspect of marketing, an often overlooked and yet equally important part is your company's internal perception.

Many companies put a lot of effort into all the external aspects of what they do, yet completely overlook what is happening due to internal perception.  Internal perception includes your thoughts and beliefs; the internal dialogues and thought processes you have regarding your business, your industry and your customers/clients. Often, we may not be aware of hidden thoughts. Our thoughts support or hinder our success.

To find out how what you believe take this simple test. For the next 48 hours notice what comes up when you are talking about your company, your products and services and the value you bring to the table. Do your internal thoughts match your words? Do you feel good about your interactions? Do you feel the prices you charge are fair and reasonable? Do you believe you are worth what you ask? Do you feel you are the best choice for your customers?

You can invest lots of money and time on external campaigns. Your true success will be determined when your thoughts and beliefs match your actions. Before you launch your next marketing campaign, ask yourself these important questions:

-How do you feel about your product or service?
-Do you feel the price you charge is matches the value your product/service -brings to your customers?
-Do you appreciate your clients?
-Do you feel appreciated by your customers or clients?
-Who do you want to do business with?
-Who wants to do business with you?

Whether you are in financial planning, training, banking, the beauty industry, day spas, or technology, take the time to know what sets you apart. In the consumer's mind, Company A looks the same as Company B in many ways. The same with Salesperson A compared to Salesperson B. To stand apart your must help the consumer understand your differences.

A simple formula to clarify your differences is to write down every
reason someone would want to do business with you.
-Are you an expert in your industry?
-Do you deliver in record time?
-Do you have a unique location?
-What is unique about your business compared to your competitors?
-What is most important to your prospects and customers about doing
business with you? (If you don't know ? ASK!)
-What can only you do that your competitors can't do?

Once you answer these questions, create a short message that incorporates these answers. When you meet with a potential customer and they ask what you do, you want to be able to concisely tell them. This process is also helpful with your current clients. Remember - they are only one call away from utilizing the services of someone else!

Before you begin to aggressively position yourself and gain visibility, think about the vision for you and your organization. Gaining a vision of what the organization stands for, the impact you want to have on your customers or clients, the quality of products and services, your contribution to your community, and where you want the organization to be in the future is essential as you move forward.

Your vision is your ideal future state and includes your values and what you desire your organization to be like. What's most important to you?

An essential aspect of your vision is understanding what makes you, your company and your team unique in the marketplace. What makes your product or service different from your competitors? Once you have your vision in mind, write it down. This will help you to solidify your thoughts and stay on track with what is truly important.

Periodically revisit your overall vision. Your core values should be the main driver of your vision, yet some of the details are bound to change. As you and your customer's needs and wants change, you may find it necessary to update your vision.

Where do you want your company to be? Where do you want to be? Match your actions with your thoughts and beliefs. Create a vision for success!

Does the Fear of Rejection Control Your Life?

Jay sought my help because he wanted to get married and have children, yet the relationship of his dreams seemed to elude him. When I first met Jay, he was an attractive, creative, brilliant and successful businessman in his middle 30's. And he had a great sense of humor. It wasn't that women weren't attracted to him. He had no trouble having first dates with interesting, intelligent, and attractive women. But it never went anywhere. Jay was baffled.

When I first started to counsel Jay, he was very quiet. It felt like pulling teeth to get him to share anything with me, especially his feelings. He stayed in his head, brilliant in his ability to articulate, but flat and unemotional. He words were carefully planned out and delivered. He seemed to always be tense. It was very hard to connect with him.

"Jay, something seems to be in the way of your spontaneity. Are you aware of how carefully you pick your words?"

"Yes."

"There must be a good reason you do this. Do you know what that is?"

"I don't want to say the wrong thing. I don't want to make a fool of myself."

"And what are you afraid will happen if you say the wrong thing or make a fool of yourself?

"I will be rejected."

"So most of the time in conversation your intention is to avoid rejection?"

"Yes. I'm terrified of rejection. I will do anything to avoid it."

"Jay, what are you telling yourself it means if someone rejects you?"

 "It means that they don't like me because I'm inadequate and unworthy."

"So in your mind, everyone, especially attractive women, have the power to define your adequacy and worth?"

"Yeah, I guess so."

"So when you are with women, your intention is to have control over how they feel about you so they won't reject you. Yet you seem to get rejected over and over. How do you account for that?"

" I guess I'm just inadequate."

"Jay, how old do you feel when you are being so careful about what you say? How old were you when you started to do this?"

"I guess when I was about 14, when I started being interested in girls. I wanted to make sure that I made a good impression."

"What made you believe that they wouldn't like you if you were just you?"

"Well, for one thing my older brother was always putting me down, telling me I was a dork."

"So you learned to believe that you were not okay for who you really are ? that you had to pretend to be other than you are?"

" Yes, I think that's correct. I always feel that I have to impress people."

"Jay, when you then get rejected, aren't they rejecting your created ego self rather than your real, authentic Self? Isn't it your wounded 14 year old ego self that is inadequate, rather than your brilliant, creative, funny, successful Self? Aren't you trying to hide your true Self because you decided, from many early experiences such as that with your brother, that you are inherently inadequate?"

"Yes, I don't think that who I really am is good enough. So I always have to be careful about what I say."

"Yet the few times in our sessions when you have forgotten to watch what you are saying, you are incredible ? funny, insightful, interesting, and totally endearing. Your true Self is completely lovable and worthy. Yet you spend so much energy trying to hide him, squashing him down in your efforts to avoid rejection. If you were to really get to know and appreciate who you really are, you would stop worrying about rejection! You would know that you are just fine, and that if someone rejects you, it's more about them than it is about you."

As Jay did the inner work to reclaim his beautiful essence, his true Self, his fears of rejection gradually diminished. And, of course, when he was able to be authentic instead of controlled and controlling, everything in his life changed, including his relationships with women.
