Your Target Market
Identifying your target market is one of
the things you should
have learned in Marketing 101, no matter
what school you
attended. Many of us attend the "School
of Hard Knocks",
and if you don't learn it there, you
probably never will be
successful in your marketing efforts.
Now let's think a little. Would it pay
you to advertise sporting
goods to people in a nursing home? How
about advertising a local fence
installation company on National TV?
Why is the answer to both of the above
no? Simple - their ads
won't reach their target market. Your
target market should
consist of people who not only need your
product or service, but also have the
wherewithal to pay for it.
Does the Internet have this same
requirement? Sure - while the Internet
is worldwide and covers most of the
globe, it is
probably more important to find your
target market there than
anyplace else.
Most places you might advertise in don't
have detailed
demographics on their visitors or
readers. Some companies are trying to
get this information, but it is a long
uphill battle as
most people are unwilling to give out
personal information on the web.
This is one instance where you have to
use some common sense. While you may not
have detailed demographics available,
there are some things you can do to
sharpen the focus a bit. If you were
selling a health product geared toward
older people, you can automatically rule
out the "kiddie sites" or ones that
appeal to a young crowd such as the
sites where you download free music.
Web Sites or Newsletters that specialize
in humor are normally a "no-no" as the
grind of getting two or three jokes out
a day, will guarantee that they will
publish some that will offend somebody.
It is also one of the least targeted.
Don't get me wrong here. Humor has its
place as long as it is in good taste, is
not offensive, and is part of a
publication that reaches a specific
group.
So, using some common sense, you
identify either some web sites where you
can place an ad, or a newsletter that
appears to cater to your potential
client base.
The next step is tracking your results.
This is where many
budding entrepreneurs miss the boat.
There are a number of ways to track
where your inquiries are coming from.
Probably the easiest is to give an email
address, which is unique to that ad. If
you have your own domain, you most
likely have unlimited aliases that all
come to the same email address. AOL
gives you multiple email addresses, and
if all else fails, get yourself a supply
of free email addresses.
You can also use the web to help in your
tracking. Designing a unique form, which
sends you an email for each ad someone
responds to, is not an overwhelming
task. You can build a keyword right into
the form, that the person filling it out
will never see, that lets you know
exactly where they saw the ad.
Newsletters are a good choice. If a
newsletter has been around for awhile,
and has a decent number of subscribers,
they are doing something right. If your
ad is not pulling, odds are either you
are in the wrong target market, or have
a crummy ad.
The first mistake someone might make is
confusing subscribers
with potential customers. One newsletter
with 500,000 subscribers may produce
minimal results, while another with only
a thousand or so, may produce a lot.
Here is where you have to determine if
the newsletter you are considering is
reaching your target market.
Many people will throw together a
"crummy" ad, and then blame the vehicle
they use to advertise it when it doesn't
work. If it is reaching your target
market, and you have a decent product or
service, which is affordable to those
you are trying to reach, you will do
business. Maybe the "School of Hard
Knocks" isn't so bad after all.

How-to Change Self Doubts and
Insecurities

The truth is you more than likely shut
yourself out of life by feeding yourself
negativism. A trait that must be
overcome and will require work. My
grandmother always told me, "If it isn't
hard it's probably not worth doing!"
This comes under those terms of HARD.
There are Phases needed to be practiced
by you in order to overcome and make it
a part of your everyday thought pattern.
The steps to overcoming are;
SPEAKING IT TO YOURSELF IN VERBAL
BELIEF
Changing of thoughts begin with what is
simply no more than
"lip service" -affirming - an idea. At
this beginning stage you are really
saying no more than "I hope this idea is
true and I want to believe it".
With many ideas the verbal belief stage
is even less than that:
It is coming to the place of saying,
"This may be true and I am willing to
believe it." Don't stop at this belief!
Example: You say I can do _______! In
the back of your mind is the thought, No
I can't but the trick is to kick that
thought out and replace it with Yes I
can!
THE MENTAL ACCEPTANCE WILL FOLLOW:
Now that you have decided to admit the
new belief into your thought system
phase one does no more than continue to
affirm; it is just putting your toe in
the door. The next phase is where
frequent repetition comes in. You
repeat the idea over and over, perhaps
aloud, perhaps silently. If you
"forget" to do the frequent repetitions.
That means in truth you have not even
reached phase one with the idea in
question; YOU ARE NOT WILLING TO LET THE
BELIEF IN! Back up and start all over
accepting the idea of, "I can do (you
name what you CAN DO."
THEN THE PARTIAL BELIEVING:
Next phase is to be accepted as partly
true, but with many reservations. The
frequent repetition of the idea brings
you into situations were you find
specific experience or experiences that
validate the truth of the idea for us.
You have an instant realization! You
finally recognize the TRUTH. Perhaps
you experience a shift in belief!
Example: Whatever you have decided to
do, you can only embrace a part of the
idea at this point! You must not quit
but continue on even though you are not
convinced 100%.
ACCEPTANCE OF THAT BELIEF INCREASES:
Once repetition continues to occur you
then can be considered seriously true!
Phase four is what I refer to as
generalization. Once you have accepted
the truth of one of the ideas in one
situation, you can begin to experience
it more and more. Phase one was mental
acceptance and Phase two was mental
repetition of the idea, then Phase three
is experiencing acceptance and Phase
four is accepting and repetition of the
idea. You realize that if the ideas
proved to be true in one situation, then
perhaps you can apply it to other
situations, and another, and so-on, Then
when further validation occurs and more
experiences prove true you are on your
way to a positive attitude.
Example: You are one step closer to
living the whole belief but not quite
all the way yet! Keep trudging it will
come to 100%!
TOTAL ACCEPTABLE BELIEVING:
Finally really believing!
This final stage is your goal in this
world. The idea that started out as a
thought concept won a more meaningful
place in your mind through frequent
repetition. Then you began to apply it
in experience and gradually grew to
encompass more and more of your life.
Then finally completely generalized
every aspect in your life. YOU NOW SEE
THE IDEA AS COMPLETELY TRUE. When
applied to everything equally life is a
"bowl of Cherries." There will be no
more difficulty in Miracles and
accepting you're the greatest person you
know and your ideas are valid!
I wish I could say that would be 100%
true but it's not. You have a lifetime
of negativism to kill and it will take
several more tries to whip it into
positivism! Just think you have killed
one negative idea and now it's time to
go on to another one and kill it as
well, with the same actions!
It is very much like a baby learning to
speak. At the start, the sounds are
incomprehensible. Baby finally chose to
take in the speech patterns around you.
Baby applied itself through frequent
repetition (baby talk). Baby began to
be comfortable with talking in limited
situations (around mom and dad). Baby
gradually extended talking in more and
more situations and around more people
until one day as if by magic baby is
speaking in a totally comprehensible
speech and understood by you and
everyone around you. It became a part of
the infant where no effort was needed to
speak. It is the very same with
accepting yourself as a viable, capable
CAN DO person! But it will take A GREAT
DEAL OF EFFORT to reach the state of
comfort and practice. Remember it takes
one to two years to learn to talk!
Changing thought patterns is also very
much like
learning to walk. You learned to stand
alone but just couldn't make those legs
go forward just yet. It took
accomplishing standing alone before
taking those first steps. (This talking
to your self) Then came taking the first
steps that required a lot of effort to
feel safe enough to take those first
steps just as speaking positively will
be! (Think before speaking out in the
new manner.)
The trick to stop changing your behavior
from negative to positive requires work
from you and when an idea like, "I can't
do (whatever it is that flashed through
your mind)" Do your Phases and whip your
mind into submission!
Change those self-doubts and
insecurities into positive motivations!
