Greetings and thank you for being an
optin subscriber.
Yesterday was not
exactly a good day around here... The storms are taking
their toll... On Sunday the mother of all storms came in and
blew out my Modem but didn't discover it until late Sunday
night when we were able to finally boot our computers up
again. How that happened I will never know as it was
unplugged during the storms must have waited too late to
unplug... Sadly the technician said it was the modem so I
had to drive 30 miles Monday morning to my ISP's office to
pick up a new one. Got home got it hooked up and still
nothing... Managed to get "Ask Lena Health Q & A" out by
connecting straight to the modem and then I headed into
Prescott to pick up a new Router, a 20 mile drive one way.
No more then got back and more storms moved in preventing me
from being online for the rest of the day... So in all I
think I may have had actually an hour working yesterday and
I did not get "Your Home Business Coach" online yesterday so
I'm pushing it this morning and this ezine may or may not
get out today as I hear and see another storm fast moving
in... Hopefully I can beat it but I'm not too sure about
that... Don't get me wrong we need the rain but why do we
have to have the lightening with it every single time? Hope
your week goes better...

Don't Expect
Miracles
When trying to contact your potential customers, while
you may not have detailed demographics available, there
are some things you can do to sharpen the focus a bit.
If you were selling a health product for example geared
toward older people, you can automatically rule out the
"kiddie sites" or ones that appeal to a young crowd such
as the sites where you download music.
Ezines that are based strictly on humor, are for the
most part the least targeted. Don't get me wrong here.
Humor has its place as long as it is in good taste, is
not offensive, and is part of a publication that reaches
a specific group.
So, using some common sense, you identify either some
web sites where you can place an ad, or a newsletter
that appears to cater to your potential client base.
The next step is tracking your results. This is where
many budding entrepreneurs miss the boat. There are a
number of ways to track where your inquiries are coming
from. Probably the easiest is to give an email address,
which is unique to that ad.
If you have your own domain, you most likely have
unlimited aliases that all come to the same email
address. AOL gives you multiple email addresses, and if
all else fails, get yourself a supply of free email
addresses.
You can also use the web to help in your tracking.
Designing a unique form, which sends you an email for
each ad someone responds to, is not an overwhelming
task. You can build a keyword right into the form, that
the person filling it out will never see, that lets you
know exactly where they saw the ad.
Newsletters are a good choice. If a newsletter has been
around for awhile, and has a decent number of
subscribers, they are doing something right. If your ad
is not pulling, odds are either you are in the wrong
target market, or have a crummy ad.
The first mistake someone might make is confusing
subscribers with potential customers. One newsletter
with 500,000 subscribers may produce minimal results,
while another with only a few thousand or so, may
produce a lot. Here is where you have to determine if
the newsletter you are considering is reaching your
target market.
Many people will throw together a "crummy" ad, and then
blame the vehicle they use to advertise in when it
doesn't work. If it is reaching your target market, and
you have a decent product or service, which is
affordable to those you are trying to reach, you will do
business.
But, don't expect miracles. A one time ad will not
normally produce results. Once you get an ad that works,
in a publication that is drawing, stick with it, even if
the responses level off. Don't forget that most decent
publications on the Internet have a high subscription
rate, and get hundreds of new people signing up every
week, who are all potential customers.

Abraham Lincoln once said, "I will prepare, and some day my
chance will come." When his chance came, he was ready.
During his seminary years, one priest-in-training sported a
T-shirt that never failed to bring chuckles. Across the
front was emblazoned: "Expectant Father." His chance came
and he, too, was ready!
When your chance comes, will you be ready?
Hockey superstar Wayne Gretzky was always ready. He broke
almost every record imaginable and is known as the greatest
hockey player of all time.
Gretzky is not particularly big for his sport -- he stands
at 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs in at 170 pounds. He
never skated particularly fast, his shot was not
high-powered and he often placed dead last on regular
strength tests administered to his team. So what made "The
Great One" so great? He was ready.
Gretzky attributes his stardom to practice and preparation.
He practiced stick handling in the off-season with a tennis
ball, as the ball was harder to control than a puck. In
practice he innovated. He practiced bouncing the puck off
the sideboards to his teammates until that technique became
a regular part of his play. Then he worked on bouncing the
puck off the net! He became so accomplished at these
maneuvers that he sometimes said, People say there's only
six men on the ice, but really, if you use the angle of
deflection of the board, there's seven. If you count the
net, that's eight. From the opening face-off, I always
figure we have 'em eight-on-six."
What made "The Great One" so great? Gretzky was always the
best prepared member of his team. He was ready.
It's been said, "If you want your ship to come in, you must
build a dock." When your chance comes, will you be ready?
