One of the most inexpensive ways to generate traffic for
your website is to use traffic exchanges. By viewing
other peoples advertisements you receive credits that
will be used to show your site to others who do the
same.
With Traffic Exchanges you add your URL to the site, and
then you start to surf all the advertisements that are
in their rotator. After a set number of sites that you
surf your site will be added to the rotation, assuming
that your site gets approved. Surfing consistently is
essential to make traffic exchanges work.
Traffic Exchanges do a couple of good things for you .
One, they give you exposure to other peoples sites, You
get a chance to see many other advertisements and sites
and get good useful information, or ideas for other web
sites you might want to start.
This will help you improve your ads, which is important
to make traffic exchanges work for you.
If the traffic exchange you are using is high in the
search engines than the more clicks you get on your site
the quicker you will move up in that search engine.
Here are five ways to make traffic exchanges work for
you.
1. You may or may not be surfing to earn credits, but
there are people who are looking at ads all day long and
if you want to get their attention you need to do it
quickly. So you need to design a web page that will
capture their attention.
2. Landing pages are the best way to grab their
attention. Don't just advertise your website or
affiliate sales pages.
By creating a landing page you get to be unique and can
concentrate on features and benefits to put on your
page.
3. Capture names and email addresses first. This is
really a goal in all of your advertising.
4. By combining a landing page with a lead capture form
you are utilizing traffic exchanges to the fullest. To
get people to fill out the form offer a free report or
something that would cause them to want to give you
their contact information.
5. Create multiple versions of each ad with different
titles and descriptions. Check which ones are getting
the most views and hits and then create more versions of
those. One of the ways to make traffic exchanges work
for you is to create a lot of effective ads. Make sure
you have good headlines for your ads.
Most traffic exchanges are free and give the option to
upgrade. If the traffic exchange has a lot of people
surfing it may make sense to upgrade. Also, if you are
pressed for time and have money to spend, upgrading or
buying credits is the way to go.
Traffic Exchanges are just one way of using free
advertising By having many ads with good headlines and
surfing consistently, you can make traffic exchanges
work for you.

Trade Shows
Trade Shows are a great way to meet
prospective clients. At first, it seems like a "walk in the
park", and they can be a lot of fun. Many of the visitors to
the show are there to see what is being offered, and to them it
is more of a holiday than work.
If you are there to show your wares, it is work. Don't confuse
your role as a vendor with that of the visitor. You must be
there before the exhibits open to ensure your booth is set up
properly, and have coverage at your booth until the exhibits
close for the day. Trying to do it alone, is at best, a
difficult proposition. There will be times when you must leave
the booth, and if it is unattended, you may be missing
prospective clients.
Let's assume you have all the "goodies" you should have such as
business cards, brochures, signs, and free samples. I'm not
going to cover that, as it will be different for each business.
As you walk about the exhibit hall, you will see some booths
where there are crowds of people, and others where the
exhibitors are trying to stay awake. What is drawing the
crowds to one booth while the others are dying on the vine?
Giveaways are nice, but they usually pick them up and are gone.
You want something, which will make them hang around a little,
so you can talk with them.
Let me give you a couple of examples. One vendor puts up a sign
"Free Return Address Labels" in front of his booth, with a
computer and printer. Visitors can enter their information on
the computer for their labels, and they are printed right away.
There is usually a line in front of this booth, waiting to get
their labels. There is also a guest book, which includes their
contact information. This vendor has done two things. First he
got the opportunity to mingle with the people waiting in line to
make his pitch, and secondly got their contact information for
follow up.
Another vendor puts some chairs and a small coffee table in a
conspicuous position. People walking about get tired - their
feet start to hurt, and they will gravitate to an unoccupied
chair. Not only will they see promotional material on the coffee
table, but it also gives you an opportunity to sit and talk with
them.
One of the busiest booths I ever saw was at the "Artigras"
Exhibit in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida. An artist from Michigan
had her wares displayed in her booth, and was sitting out front
doing free caricatures. She had the line of people waiting,
weaving in and about her display in the booth, and many people
bought something while waiting.
Which brings us to the reason of why you're there. You are there
to promote your business or sell your wares. In order to do
this, you must attract people to your booth.
There are many "attention getting" devices that can be used, but
make sure the one you use allows you to interact with your
visitors.
