Okay, now you have your website with everything you ever wanted
in it and you are ready for business but the question to follow
is, "What do I do Now?"
Plug it in, plug it in to every ezine, newsletter, classified,
etc. If you don't people won't find your site. Same story with
your newsletter/ezine. People are not going to find you unless
they know where you are and then only will they find you if you
tell them where you are.
There are many ways to plug in your web site or newsletter/ezine
to the World Wide Web but you have no idea how or where? You
should already know that it is very important to publish your
own newsletter to keep your customers/clients up on the latest
Internet marketing techniques as well as your product/service.
As one means of promoting your site and passing on important
business tips your newsletter is the single most important
medium on the Internet. "But how do I do that?" you ask.
Link to similar sites or sites that will compliment yours!
Get your site on all the search engines
by making sure your key words are relevant to your site.
Then, another options of promoting are newsgroups. This
technique can be pretty useful, but you have to be careful
to make sure you post appropriately to the right groups and
joining in the discussions takes up a considerable amount of
time. If you are not careful of how you post you may lose
your privilege to use the newsgroup. If you have the time do
that it's good but it really will take thousands upon
thousands of postings to see results. I know, been there
done that!
How to find swap resources
The necessity of having traffic to have a successful
business means the need for many visitors or subscribers.
Then logically, you should have your link in as many places
as possible. Many studies show that most visitors will come
to your site from the links or banners on other sites. So
plug it in and link up!
Linking to other sites is not an easy task. Although
achieving it isn't too hard, if you know where to look.
First you have to decide which sites you want to link to?
You need to choose a target audience. By that I mean, you
need to have links that will compliment your site, but not
compete with you. It is not very effective to be linked to a
totally unrelated business site, but you don't have to have
your link on competitor sites either. So you need to find
those sites that complement your site. Example if you have a
business site that promotes mainly home business tips and
information you don't want to link to corporate sites. By
linking to sites that will compliment your business it is
more likely that people will actually click on your link
since they probably have an interest already.
You can now easily find complimentary places to advertise by
putting in your key words and search! search! search! You
will get many results, but many of them are useless for your
marketing campaign. You will get far more results with fewer
approaches if you find people who are also looking to swap
resources. Do a search for "Ad Swaps," and then contact each
site owner that you have chosen and give them positive
reasons why linking together can improve their business.
Newsletters/ezines are another great source! One technique -
subscribe to as many newsletters and ezines as you can that
compliments your business or is the same kind of business
and you can locate numerous links. Make sure you have a
separate email address set up for them or you will become
overwhelmed and quit.
Proper email etiquette is important to form a kinship. You
can't simply say: "Hey, I want my link on your site". That
might work one in a thousand times but why waste the time.
Remember that time is MONEY! First of all, you should
personalize your swap request.
For example it is better to say: "Dear Lena" or "Dear
Webmaster." Be sure to include the name of their site or
ezine in the email too as well as your URL or newsletter/ezine
name for them to check out. Without your URL,
newsletter/ezine they will simply delete your request. I
know I delete requests almost daily as they leave off their
URL and I don't have the time to ask for it...
After which, you have to explain why are you interested in
swapping links with them. For example you can say that they
offer valuable information to enhance their readers lives
and you think that that it will be useful to your visitors
to come to their site. You have to tell them why you should
put their link on your site: They need to know what?s in it
for them and how your site can enhance their business as
well as yours.
Swapping links creates some great online friends. After the
initial contact you may be able to cooperate on many other
things as well as creating lasting friendships and
cooperative marketing. Online friendships can be a great
asset to your personal life as well as your business life.
When you swap links don?t simply use the number of
subscribers or visitors for determining whether you will
exchange links with someone or not. The value of a certain
newsletter or site should be just as important to you. It is
also as important to know where your link will be and how
many other ads will be in the same place where you will
advertise. As you can see, swapping links isn?t always as
easy as it sounds but well worth it.

It doesn't matter how great your product is or how wonderful
your service, if you don't have customers, all you have is a
skill, or a product. People don't go into business normally
as a hobby,
although a lot of hobbies do turn into a business. The trick
however, is to turn it into a positive cash flow to realize
your
goals.
If you're serious about doing business, you must plan for
the
long run. Successful businesses don't normally just happen.
They are the result of long hours of planning, and a great
deal
of work.
There must also be a "war chest" of funds available until a
positive cash flow is achieved. One of the major problems
that
many encounter when starting up, is that they overextend
their
financial resources. No matter what your business, or how
it is
run, you must be able to meet current bills when they come
due.
Every business has its peaks and valleys. During the
Holiday
Season for example, retailers have their peaks. Other
businesses
may suffer however, but even during the "lean" times they
must
still meet their monthly obligations.
The pundits may argue that the economy is what is causing
turmoil and business failures. A business that does fail
however, most likely has overextended themselves, to the
point that their cash inflow wasn't enough to cover their
expenses. When their "war chest" was depleted, they were
gone. How does this affect the small entrepreneur? Can we
learn a lesson from this?
Let's examine a program that the average person can get
into. Affiliate Marketing is the current "buzzword" for
Multi-Level Marketing, or MLM for short. MLM got a bad rap
over the ast six or seven years, due to the scamsters that
abounded. A number of companies were founded that were
simply "Ponzies" in disguise.
The majority of their cash inflow was the result of signing
up new members. When the cash flow from new recruits dried
up, so did the investment of those who had joined.
Are there legitimate companies out there - sure and many
have a
great track record. They don't rely on attracting high
priced recruits, but have a legitimate product or service
that they offer. If you are going to get involved in one of
these companies, that should be a major concern.
So - assuming you found such a company, it is time to
investigate
the feasibility of you going into business with them. They
provide the product or service, and you must set yourself up
in business. Here is where the cash flow comes into play.
Can you afford the monthly amount you pay them? Can you
afford to promote your relationship with this business
without immediate income? If the answer to either question
is "no", you'd be well advised to reconsider.
If the answer is "yes", how are you going to promote it?
Most
companies recommend you exhaust your "warm market" first.
Your "warm market" is your circle of family and friends that
you might convince to join in with you. Eventually however,
you are going to exhaust this market and must start seeking
people outside that circle.
One way to attract new people is in the online arena. While
this
will not replace the "face to face" contact that is
necessary, if
it is done correctly, it can add a valuable source of
additional
income.
Many people make the mistake of using a web site supplied by
their company. While this can be a valuable tool, it really
ties
you into their product. If you get your own site, you can
use it
to highlight your offerings. It is of course necessary to
advertise your web site, and ezines and newsletters usually
give
you the best return on your investment. With a modest
investment
on your part, you can realize a decent return.
Usually, for less than a few hundred dollars, you can get a
web
site and advertise in ezines targeted to your potential
market.
Most people can afford this without counting on their cash
intake
to cover the expenses. Determine what you can spend out of
pocket to make something like this work. Then, as your cash
flow improves, expand your advertising to include a broader
market.
While this is a modest start, it doesn't put you in the
position
where you must realize income to make expenses. Above all
be
patient and realize it will take time and effort to realize
your
goals.
