Greetings and happy May Day!

Today is the first of May, do you have your goals list made and sitting where you can see it? Do you realize that making goals is the only way you will know if you've gotten where you want to go? It's better late than never, if you haven't done it, do it now!

I'm still playing catchup but looks promising! Thank you for helping make April a very prosperous and great month. Having a home business is the only way to contentment in these times, but that isn't my real goal. My goal is to help people become healthy and build a nest egg, if that is what you desire and that's an easy goal to hit!

Do what you must to succeed today. As long as it's honest, fulfilling, doesn't cause anyone else pain or discomfort and worthwhile!

As we watch a swimmer glide through the water, we normally aren't thinking about the years of work spent building up the muscles of the shoulders. If you ask most people what frustrates them most about the
Internet, many of them will tell you "It's the little
things!"

It seems like all the great tricks and tips that
make people exclaim "STOP! How did you do that?" never make it into any manual (at least where I can find them).

My father (and co-author of "Turn Words Into Traffic")
calls it the "reverse oral tradition" of computing, where
children teach parents the survival skills of PC life.

Well, if you want to look good to your kids or buddies
around the water cooler, check out the following cool web
tricks.

~^~ Cool Google Tricks ~^~

Virtually everyone knows that Google.com ranks at the top
of most people's search engine lists, but it does a lot
more than just tell you where to find vitamins or
information on George Washington's wooden teeth!

Need a map to a specific location?

Type in the address, city and state of virtually any
location in the US, hit the search button, and Google
serves up several different map providers across the Web.

Want to know what software application a certain file goes
with on your computer?

Input the file name into Google's search box and a number
of reference sites will help you know exactly what purpose
a file serves.

I actually used this to feature to identify a piece of
"spyware" lurking on my computer.

Want to know who's calling you on the phone in the US?

You can just input the phone number on your caller ID or
cell phone display into the Google search box and get
information on listed numbers before your answering machine
can even pick up!

Log on to http://www.google.com/help/features.html for more
cool search features that harness the search power of
Google.

~^~ Text Zoom ~^~

Next time you can't see small text clearly on a website,
try holding down the "CTRL" key and then moving the scroll
wheel on your mouse up and down.

The text in your web browser (and some programs) will
increase and decrease in size as you roll the wheel back
and forth.

This little trick provides an excellent means of quickly
getting what you need from websites with tiny text.

~^~ Slow Surfing? ~^~

If your Internet Explorer web browser starts giving you
problems, you might want to clean up your "Temporary
Internet Files."

Most people don't realize it, but when you leave a web
page, it doesn't leave you!

Most of the time you keep a copy of websites you visit on
your hard drive and, over time, they build up.

This collection of old web pages can eventually cause your
surfing to slow to a crawl and even cause errors!

Here's one way to clear out those old files. Click your
"Start" button, then "All Programs," "Accessories," "System
Tools" and "Disk Cleanup."

After an initial check of your hard drive (which can take
some time if it's the first time you've ever launched the
utility), you can check the boxes of the files you wish to
delete.

To speed up your surfing, at a minimum, make sure you
delete the "Temporary Internet Files."

~^~ Surfing Shortcuts ~^~

To quickly cycle back and forth through a series of web
pages you've visited, hold down the "ALT" key and tap your
left and right arrow keys.

Left arrow takes you back while the Right arrow takes you
forward.

The Page Up and Page Down buttons allow you to quickly move
up and down any web page without struggling to find the
scroll bar slider on the right side of the page.

"How to be a Strong and Powerful Leader,"

When we think of leadership, we often think of the traits of
strength, and power.  But what are these really, and how do
they operate?

Leadership today is not about coercion and forcing others to
do things.  If these things are even possible, they are
short-term, and tend to backfire.  If you force someone to
do something against their will, they may do it because they
feel they must, but the resentment they feel will do more
harm in the long-term.  They will also experience fear.

Fear causes the thinking brain to shut down, making the
person unable to function at his or her best.  If they
associate you with this emotion of fear, they will become
less functional around you, and you will have succeeded in
not only shooting yourself in the foot, but possibly
rendering a very competent and effective employee, partner
or colleague dysfunctional.

Fear has no place in leadership.

The way we influence people in a lasting way is by our own
character, way of being, and understanding and use of
emotion.  We can order someone to do something, which may be part of the work day; or we can engage them at the emotional
level, so they become invested in the project and provide
some of their own motivation.  Today's work place is all
about relationships.  It always has been, but it's just now
being labeled as such.

Anyone works harder in a positive environment where they're
recognized and valued as a human being as well as a worker.
Everyone produces just a bit more for someone they like.
This is human nature.  Leaders understand the way things
work, not a fantasy of how things "should" work.  Over and
over we read that the pay check is not the single most
motivating factor in the work life of most people.  What is?
The relationship!

Good relationships motivate the individual.  They also
create a positive atmosphere in the work place.  Both are
necessary for the best functioning.

Some of the most powerful people are the most soft-
spoken and gentle.  True strength is an inner strength that
comes from the confidence of emotional intelligence -
knowing your own emotions, and how to handle them, and
those of others.

Think of the last time you saw someone lose their temper.
Immediately your respect falls, yes?  You may fear them,
which is understandable because someone who cannot manage
their own temper is unpredictable, but you will not respect
them or find them worthy of "following" unless by coercion.

Anyone having a temper tantrum looks like a two-year-old,
because they're acting like a two-year-old.  There's no way
around it.

Theodore Roosevelt's definition of diplomacy was, "Talk
softly and carry a big stick."  Every leader needs a large
touch of diplomacy to influence others, create vision, and
achieve goals.   The "big stick" can be a sort of inner
resolve - authenticity, if you will, and integrity.  We are
all too aware of when someone is authentic, and when they
are phony, and no one wants to willingly follow someone they
can't trust.  There's that word again - trust.  We trust
people who are constant, predictable, and under good
self-management.

What's the bottom line?  Being strong and powerful refers to
inner strength and power over yourself.  No one can manage,
lead or influence someone else if they, themselves, are
out-of-control.   Developing your emotional intelligence is
the single best thing you can do if you want to develop your
leadership skills.
